That alleged 1966 photo of Frank Mannor’s Ann Arbor/Dexter UFO

Copyright 2023, InterAmerica, Inc.
A while back, while looking for a government sheet of available photos and films for Dominick, I came across a photo of the 1966 Ann Arbor UFO that was given to me by a young girl I thought I had a relationship with, during my time gathering material about the UFO sighting for the Detroit NEWS.

The photo has a history: it, with some personal letters I had, was taken from my desk back then.

The photo, which someone had pilfered, was eventually returned.

Apparently, a friend of the girl, who gave me the photo, had stolen it one night while visiting my home while I was gone.

(I heard, a few years later, from the 18 year-old girl who originally gave me the photo, after she read some pieces about me in the Detroit newspapers. The photo was not part of that conversation.)

I hadn’t thought about the photo but was pleased to find it among my cache of UFO stuff.

I’ve placed the photo on my very private web page, to which only the most intimate of my pals have access.

I planned to make the photo available here for you fellows and readers. It is likely the only photo of the witnessed object Frank Mannor and his son plus some citizens and sheriff officers saw as the object flew over the swamp where it had originally been spotted.

However, I thought it wise to get an okay from the girl who gave it to me (and who, I suppose, took the photo). Had she made any arrangements about ownership?

But I can’t locate her, trying all sources where she should be noted, even obituaries, but to no avail thus far. I tried variations on her last name, just in case I remembered it incorrectly. But nada.

So, until I am assured the photo is scot-free of any ownership by anyone, other than me, I’m holding it in abeyance.

  • Hope you can show the photo here some day. I wasn't aware there were any in this case.

I always do a double-take when I see the original sketch of the saucer, reproduced here. A similar version shows up in the sci-fi novel "Fade-Out" by Patrick Tilley from the '70s, a favorite of mine. I wonder how and why that came to be.

  • There are a couple of photos from the period, of the object seen by Mannor and his son....not that time lapse of the Moon and Venus.

I imagine any photo would be grist for a pay out by somebody -- not my interest -- so it has to be treated gingerly.

  • Also was not aware that there were any photos. And as to publication, almost no one anywhere is concerned about "rights of ownership" anymore. Not a good thing, of course. I find my copyrighted stuff reproduced all over the net without permission. But I respect your concerns. Oh that others would be as respectful as you.

  • Part of the problem, Dom, is that the girl (and her friends) were plants by the local police trying to determine who or what I represented. (I had a reputation for trouble, political or social trouble, not criminal trouble).

Originally I had listed the whole account in my posting, which only Ron saw I think. I retold the episode without the details that sort of indicated why this girl gave me the photo.

There was a method to her providing it I think, so along with concern for its ownership, there is that too.

This blog was -- and maybe still is -- taken wholesale by a guy who posted it as his own.

With my connection to Google, I got it delisted, but ingredients here often show up, as does yours and Tony Bragalia's, among others, without attribution.

For me it's not a big deal, but for those, like you and Tony (and Caravaca), the attribution is important.

It's not a matter of money, but of reputation and diligent work.
