The intersection of Dante’s Inferno and Paradiso and Extraterrestrialism
The need for alien (extraterrestrial) contact via UFO
incursion denotes a mind-set that is deficient; not mentally deficient but,
rather, intellectually and culturally deficient.
In Dante’s Comedy (The Divine Comedy for some)
we are treated to the Circles of Hell and the Celestial Bodies of Heaven (with
a sojourn around Purgatory’s Rings, which don’t factor into my suggestion
here).
My previous and ongoing excursions about the insignificance
of Earth and Earthlings relates to how extraterrestrials might see us (or,
better, ignore us).
But Earth and its inhabitants (sentient and otherwise) are
unique, but not to an extent that would incur alien visitors, and here’s why….
While the Earth is a container for odd, even spectacular,
flora and fauna, it is so inconsequential in the cosmos scheme of things – you
know my position on this – that only a happenstance reconnoiter by advanced
extraterrestrials could account for alien visitation, but even then not in the
numbers that UFO reports indicate.
If UFOs are von Neumann-like probes, that, too, could not
account for the number of UFOs purportedly witnessed by Earthlings; the numbers
staggeringly exceed what a sane, advanced civilization would send forth to our
lonely planet.
(Crossover from other dimensions or a parallel universe can
be credibly accepted for UFO incursions, but that for another time.)
My point here is that the desire by many UFO buffs to seek
an ET explanation for UFOs is a shirking of what is wonderful about our planet.
No outsider civilization could have – even if we could
interpret an alien culture – the human products that transcend creativity, even
divine creativity.
For instance, the art of Michelangelo, Raphael, vanGogh,
Picasso, and the many other painters you are familiar with (and some you
aren’t).
The writings of Sophocles, Plato, Chaucer, Shakespeare,
Dostoevsky, Joyce, Dickinson, et al.
The music of Monteverdi, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin,
Mahler, Schoenberg, and multiple others (most you know, many you don’t).
The scientific and technical genius of Euclid, Newton,
Galileo, Leibniz, Einstein, Bors, Jobs, and dozens of others you’re familiar
with).
You know the philosophers: Aristotle, Maimonides, Kant, Nietzsche
and psychologists: Freud, Jung, Skinner, and political leaders: Julius Caesar,
Charlemagne, Peter the Great, Washington, Lincoln, and the raft of religious
founders: Moses, Abraham, Mohammed, Luther, Smith and other brilliant humans,
too numerous to cite here.
These are what one would find and do find in Dante’s
Paradise.
Then there are the scourges of humankind: Nero, Attila, Mao,
Hitler, and today Trump; just seeing if you’re paying attention.
This group inhabits the lower circles of Dante’s Hell.
But then we have the (non or different) sentient creatures
of the Earth: whales, dolphins, octopi, plants, trees, various mammals, and all
the glories of life here.
Can there be an advanced extraterrestrial civilization to
compare with Earth?
(And don’t give me the meme that that’s why ETs visit here.
They don’t even know we and Earth exists.)
We are one of a kind, alone in our brilliance and cultural
significance.
Do we need ET intrusions in our existence? I don’t think so.

Well put. Some will argue that you advance a earth-centric bias, but absence any credible and solid evidence that real intelligent life exists elsewhere in our galaxy, let alone the universe, we are left with...this lonely planet.
Others should not get all wrapped up with my above statement, as things could change in the future pending the discovery of intelligent life forms elsewhere. But...we are it for now.

Congratulations Rich!..Very well put, & agree mostly, an interesting read!..(BUT!:)..
It could be said, that because they:(ETs) are down here "In amongst us" as humans! for some time now,..and I've heard this mentioned,..that they "are a part of the very things" you point out, and so well put!..Love it!..(But what if?:)..And yes, I can't prove this, anymore than you can prove your points of view, and that's just it, just a point of view! Remembering of cause, that Ufology has made a statement to congress in the citizens hearing, on the ETs. having engaged the human race!..There is no longer, any need, for the so called: (Truth embargo) on the ET/UFO subject, for which the government still holds to: "There is "no evidence" of ET/UFO existence. Its said by Ufology, this statement is not true! There is overwhelming evidence to the contrary, and outstanding witnesses, have given their testimonies, at the citizens hearing to congress. This to me, is very compelling, and awaits a reaction to this hearing on ET/UFO.
Not another 60odd yrs. of waiting, I'm hopping, but I wouldn't be that surprised, considering, there's something "huge" going on behind all this....................

Okay fellows...
I'm pleasantly happy with the grand elements of humankind, so an ET presence, for me, isn't necessary as a "salvation from afar" -- even from God.
That there is an undertow of madness rippling through human societies (and always has) is disturbing but, over all, there are aspects of creative transcendence that keep me from longing for an alien visitation.
I'd like to see ufologists -- especially the ET proponents -- take it easy with their longing.
Enjoy what we have and what we are.....a unique species that rivals divinity with our creative output. ETs needn't apply.

Our uniqueness would likely end on contact or, however unlikely, on disclosure. In either case it's a sweepstakes with all or nothing as the prize is there but of unknown value -the lady or the tiger.
As with our lotteries, there are those who just go plain nuts over them and others that pay some attention as they watch the masses line up for and in their insanity. And then there are the charlatans to muddy up things.
And, as you said, there are also the evil doers.
It really pretty simple if you accept the diversity.
-Though rarely, I do on occasion buy a ticket and wait with some hope for the results...

Insane madness is nothing, compared to what all, may see in the streets, after the: "truth embargo" is lifted, on disclosure. When people discover that they have been living a life of a lie, cloaked by the "Truth embargo" for some 60 + Yrs. they're going to be very disgruntled. I would say this is, "in part" the reason for the "Truth embargo" in the first place, just to keep the peace, and away of life!..For the rest of us!?..it may be some answers, to life-long questions, that never did make sense, but at least, "confirmation" of what we thought might be, or what we saw,and were baffled by. What ever you think, there is one thing for sure; everyone's paradigm will never be the same, and I hold fast the saying:..When the power of love, overpowers, the love of power, we will have peace, and you know, if we don't change direction, we're likely to end up where we going:).........
