ET Thinking

How would extraterrestrials think, if extraterrestrials
exist and think?
Thinking as we humans understand thinking is compromised by
our view of how other species (plant, animal, insect, sea life, microbial, et
al.) think.
Some of us believe that living creatures think as we human
mammals think and, as often noted here, almost everything in the Earth’s
biosphere think, and creatively too.
But such thinking or thought is restricted by the variables
and strictures that are unique to this planet, and this planet alone.
The brains of humans, beginning before the Paleolithic age,
but reaching consciousness or awareness in the Neolithic age, according to
Jaynes (see previous postings here), is enabled by brain structures such a
neural connectors, complex synapses, and all the other biological accoutrements
and are developed according to Darwin’s Theory of Evolution which is only
applicable to planet Earth (again, see previous postings here).
The thinking of all species (living creatures) on Earth is
subject to evolution and functions with the cultural and environmental
restrictions unique to planet Earth.
Thus, a supposed intelligent species bred on a planet other
than Earth would think, if that is what we assume to call the fulcrum of their
intelligence, in ways that have to be foreign to what we call thinking.
The movie Arrival approaches the topic, as has some old
clunkers like Earth vs The Flying Saucers.
But for our intent here, one has to assume that extra-planetary
species would not begin to think in a manner that we’d recognize or understand.
This is just one more element of the UFO conundrum that hasn’t
been vetted by the ufological community.

In my understanding of thought, thinking is a process of life's useful experiences of: [Curiosity, Love, Hate, Danger, Good, bad, Food, the list goes on for ever]:)...
But to throw a new one in here. In what Language do we think in, when talking to ones self? Don't we all do this, in our private thoughts? For example, when we READ we are thinking, or interpreting the written material we read, yes?
My point is this, and its only a thought:) ET Thinking, for an "Extraterrestrial" may be the same Process with one exception; They can read one-another's mind of thoughts, so this could mean, that what one of them experience, so to, the others.
Right there! is a super thinking ET of thoughts. We might call it the "Hive mentality":)........

Would like to add to my above comment, because I kept thinking, over & over...
The thought: - "One for all & all for one" - Meaning; the ALL, are as ONE, but the ONE, being just part of, ALL!...
Sounds a bit like an, "Ant Colony" or "Bee Hive" do you think?
There we go, I've done my dash, & contributed to thought:)............

As an ET would have to be intelligent to get here and any real contact would start with observation.
Following observation if a discourse was desired it would be a communication effort perhaps starting with gestures as we do other species (although pointing guns is a poor gesture) and, presuming their being more intelligent -as they got here for first- electronic assistance of some kind would a reasonably expected.
We are already involved in EEG/brain wave scanning technology -you can buy a cheap one to play with for under $100 - so looking forward to inter-species communication assistance is reasonable.
As we are discussing this they too would have considered the same issue in advance of their arrival.

YOUR meaning. It's as simple as you will help everybody and everybody will help you. Increasingly getting utopian lately /:|

I think extraterrestrials would think (and act) so differently from humans that we could hardly realise they´re conscious or intelligent beings...
Seriously, I think that if a human being should meet a real alien being it would be more like a psychotic experience (as we just can´t understand them) than anything else (on the other hand, maybe some of these so-called UFO experiences really are true contacts because they are so crazy.... [no, not really, just wondering]...)

I'm too jerry. But on a biological point of view, to consider an alien sentient, it has to fit the "life" parameters: breathe, eat, breed, repeat pattern. Plus, evolution has a tendency of skimming out the unnecessary genes and further useful ones. To reach intelligence and travel light-years or dimension, at one point, your kind learned how to draw and react to symbols, weird or not. Muons may be life as we don't know it... we want contact!

Human language is our mode of thinking. Whether other species 'think' or not, we can be certain they do not think in human language and therefore do not 'think' as we do.
Derrida (in Of Grammatology) refers to the priority of writing over speaking, meaning that before we speak we 'write' in our minds what we want to say. Our language seems best suited to narrative. We have to explain something to ourselves before we can communicate it to others. Rich, refers to Jaynes who believed we at first took our 'internal voice' to be an external actor; that seems rather sensible from a survival perspective. Thinking in one's mind is an acquired social skill.
For our species and those in our evolutionary lineage there are basic or primal or instinctual behaviors, such as finding our spot in the gradient from hot to cold, or light to dark.
There are species on earth we could not imagine when I was a boy, such as those around deep ocean vents and in the crust of the earth, which are not hardly like life up here on the surface.
Life seems to find a way under odd conditions, and not likely to be deterred by circumstances. I do like Kenneth Arnold's idea that the saucers were animals who live in the air. Deep rock, deep sea life, why not deep air?
The route to understanding an alien species might be to understand their biosystem, their ecology, and its history.

Don

Hi Don:
Excellent & agree. Human language is our mode of thinking, yes! But not for Animals, although having said that, some key words like, their Name, or a given instruction they understand, but I think mostly their thoughts are from the experience of their five senses, as they hear & see things, with thoughts & feelings as we have. Our friend the dog, a good example, with a list there of.
ET on the other hand, may have no need for language, that "thought" may be a direct communication between two beings, but may well understand our language.
Then there is the question of how many different species, that are as different from one-another as we can imagine...
I think Jerry comes close in his comment:).............

Hi Jerry:
lol:) -> Seriously, I think that if a human being should meet a real alien being it would be more like a psychotic experience <-
Only if you believe Jerry, only if you believe! but in reality, if you weren't already psychotic, you soon might be:).........

An interesting thought, Bryan, & yes!...

Like; "Crop-Circles?" but not the ones made by people, but larger, more complex, made over night!? An attempt to respond to us...........

Daniel,
Maybe an alien contact would heal my [supposed] psychosis? (Actually, this sounds very plausible... I have to think about this a bit more : ) ..)

Jerry,
I was figuratively speaking, don't think about it, but your reply is worth a smile lol:)...........

Don,
->Human language is our mode of thinking. Whether other species 'think' or not, we can be certain they do not think in human language and therefore do not 'think' as we do.<-
Don, you know this, I know this, & many do, but how many reading this, have not given much "thought" to this, at all!? The younger Generation for example!?
We think in terms of our language, yes, to communicate the same, and because of this, it has enabled us, to collectively build Cities, with an infrastructure that leads to technology, the rest is history in the making.
Animals, on the other hand, have not come anywhere near this, because they can not think or communicate a language to others, as we do. Where I'm going with this is IF, we are talking about ET thinking or thought as it must be, and IF they exist as Ufology claims, they do! Hear on Earth, as has been pointed out, then surely the question must arise; What is their "infrastructure" in advance to ours, that enabled them to build a craft and came hear in the first place!?
There must be a thinking process akin to ours, just that it's in advance to us......
