At least those alien supercivilizations seem to be nowhere near as far as we can tell (https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/alien-supercivilizations-absent-from-100-000-nearby-galaxies/) so I think the legendary question of Fermi is still current: "Where are they?". (One of these days I`ll start to subscribe the Matrix-theory, that we`re just living in a computer simulation and weird things like UFOs are just glitches or bugs in the code, that would make so much more sense...)
A supercivilization, that is way ahead of us, and said to be down here amongst us, would be meticulous, in concealing their presence.. Why? .. The fear or concern of reprisal, for many reasons!?
(1) As a Skeptic, you just don't know, and to find out, would be shock & horror! Sooo, this would be about stealth, but of course, I don't know this, do I?
(2) Could it be, that our Government(s) have a contract with this supercivilization, and we just do not know about this, think about this! Where did our technology come from? and so quickly!? The electronic components, there of. Computers, Cell phones, IPods, Note-Pads, list goes on..... Components for; TV./Radio, from the old valves, to Transistors, to microprocessors. Look at what works in a hearing-aid, and so on...
Sooo, yes; "Where are they?" OR "Who are they?"............
"Let's not forget the time frame too!" You said it!
Even the fictional Krell had visited Earth and destroyed themselves before we even existed; and this could easily be true given that the Galaxy is over 13 billion years old.
They're not just few--if they exist at all--they are very far away, or may have only existed in some distant time.
We appear to be all alone. Are we the first or the last? Or have creatures like us blown themselves up repeatedly on planets across the Galaxy over billions of years, and without ever knowing of another's existence?
But that's probably the subject of some science-fiction or existential novel I've never read. The Angst! ;-D
I think that the probability of getting hit by a planet-killer asteroid balances out with the possibility of bio evolution. We might be alone now but in the light-years and billions of years themselves, we are certainly not exceptional. Time and place create probability, we crunch as we can.

Surely there are differing opinions as to if there is even one?

One, ten, or hundreds, is any one of them visiting Earth? Not very likely.

May be, but hasn't. The death throws of the 'we are not alone' movement.
