Mmmm!..What is thought to be a "myth" once.. may NOT be, a "myth" any longer..
There is always, the first time to everything. Just look at inventions & their improvements, we have today..
It was once thought, impossible to fly, and so on, NOW, look at our way of life, just look at what we have today, that was once thought not possible. This is why I think it wise, to keep an open mind on this subject, of UFOs. You never know what's around the corner,so to speak..
I mean, What's next, we might ask? that is not thought to be possible, just to be proven wrong in the end..
I consider, the possibility of life being out there! There is an array of life forms in abundance, down here on earth, why not out there? and if we can't believe this, BOY! are we in for a shock, in the cultural surprise of thing to come.........

Thanks for the heads up re this volume, about which I wouldn't have found out otherwise, likely.
As to "mythology", that seems an interpolation by the journalist. The book's title is _American Cosmic: Ufos, Religion, Technology_. The product description begins:
"More than half of American adults and more than seventy-five percent of young Americans believe in intelligent extraterrestrial life. This level of belief rivals that of belief in God. American Cosmic examines the mechanisms at work behind the thriving belief system in extraterrestrial life, a system that is changing and even supplanting traditional religions."
From the _very_ little I've been able to glean without actually having had a chance to read the book (which will be for general sale only in February), the argument seems basically that UAP etc are understood (interpreted) as technological phenomena (ET spaceships) because of the assumed technoscientific frame of reference characteristic of the so-called advanced societies. In the Middle Ages, said phenomena were understood differently. But we'll have to read the book to see....
