Project Blue Book - Number Two (exactly)

The second show in the History Channel's god-awful Project Blue Book series managed to corrupt the 1952 Flatwoods Monster sighting with a showing of a military presence, picking up the alleged UFO from which the "monster" supposedly emerged, and highlighting an odd-looking monster, a hint of lesbianism, the owl explanation, a murder by MIB, and the Hynek household as a typical middle American domicile.
Could a "dramatic" depiction of an actual event be any more distorted?
And some UFO long-timers and die-hards will write or say that this is wonderful entertainment.
No wonder the general public thinks UFO enthusiasts are a bit loony.

Reading the NYT piece is like having a heart attack and then reading how to avoid one.
You know, better than anyone, Bryan, that people (UFO enthusiasts among them) will never check out the UFO accounts that History's "drama" errantly presents.
Viewers will accept the show as their UFO education, and that's it.

Rich, I was wondering if you had picked up on the lesbian-like scene. Too bad there was not a Blue Book, or Signs investigation of Roswell. History would have treated it like a version of "South Park."

Kevin (Randle) talked with the Hynek family after the first airing and they were delighted by how they were portrayed.
I wonder if that's still the case.

My concern is not so much about Hynek or the family, but how the likes of pilot George Gorman were mistreated. He was a WW2 hero (pilot) who fought for his country. His background summary in the Blue Book files shows him (ironically) in a very favorable light, in terms of his character etc. But, the makers of the show chose to present him with PTSD and having to be shot with mind-altering meds to calm him down. It's pretty low to transform a war hero into someone completely different, all in the name of "entertainment."
The same with last night's episode: the people of Flatwoods were transformed into gun-toting nuts, ready to fill military personnel with lead. None of that ever happened, and I wonder what the people of the town, today, think of last night's "version" of events.

Both the Gorman and Flatwoods folk treatments went over the line, as you note Nick.
The Hyneks liked the treatment of Allen because it makes him somewhat heroic.
But Ruppelt is also maligned.
(And the Flatwoods monster was depicted more like a demon than the thing allegedly seen. UFO newbies are being scammed.)
The show is a dirty shame.

I saw the first episode. What a train wreck. Someone’s dramatic license should be pulled. Hynek in a plane crash? Throwing in one of John Keel’s supposed MiB encounters? Surveillance by blonde bombshell? He discovers a psychotronic laboratory? What a disgrace.
