MJ Banias reviews History's Project Blue Book: Episode 6 -- The Green Fireballs?

Those of us still watching this dreck, as if it is a real presentation of Allen Hynek's UFO efforts and the Air Force's Blue Book operation, are quite mad (loony).

Those watching the show because it's entertaining have no idea what quality TV is supposed to be nor what actual theatrical drama is.

The program just stinks.

  • I had a brief look at it on You-tube, but soon gave up. A lot of hand waving and verbiage by the presenter but clearly not a true documentary. More like SF with a bit of fact inserted. Purely for entertainment. I just wonder what sort of audience it is aimed at. Oh well.....

    No, I won't bother with it any more. Brexit is far more entertaining. Ha Ha Ha.

  • Good episode! Good Review!

    It's almost as if MJ Banias has been reading my comments on the show from episode one. Ha! Or what's more likely is that this series is so simple and obvious.

    The subject and substance are the whole and every bit of "UFO" mythology--the Grand Cosmic Conspiramyth. And the treatment is a mashup of classic sci-fi movie and TV tropes delivered in a necessary paranoid Carter-Spielbergian style. So that anyone with a lick of sense that can speak can only appreciate it for exactly what it is.

    Pure fiction and all-for-fun entertainment! It's just a "UFO" TV show. Get over it!

  • I bet, Zoam, that if a TV show took the people who believe in your Null Hypothesis and made them into moronic caricatures to satisfy the prurient or foolish needs of the great unwashed to be entertained, you'd be as livid as those of us who hate that some good, decent persons are mocked on History's Project Blue Book, some involved persons abetting the awful, often sleazy fiction.

  • Oh, but Rich, great real-life skeptics have been the targets of personal attacks, even real-life threats and "moronic caricatures" for decades, all in service to the maintenance of the twisted fantasies of flesh-ripping "UFO" believers. So we're more than accustomed to false and malicious criticism.

    And I don't think any real personage, ie J Allen Hynek, is being made a "moronic caricature." The show's producers are merely borrowing an historical name to create a fictitious character in an entirely fictitious TV program. And his family has endorsed it!

    So straw-man argument, Rich!

  • I love great TV fiction; i.e. PBS's Victoria and HBO's Game of Thrones, but the PBB show is just dreadful, a slew of propagandistic vignettes serving the History Channel's agenda and the self-serving Hyneks. May J Allen rest in peace.
