Pushing the ET Meme

The Science Channel, in its current UFO phase, provided, Thursday night [9/26/19], programming pushing the proposition [meme] of a possible Alien (Extraterrestrial) invasion; how humans might counter such an attack.
The program(s) used notable physicists to provide a sense of authenticity to the improbable scenario.
What is the purpose of such programming, which is also being pushed by the History and Travel Channels?

Some ufologists see such broadcasts as a prelude to "disclosure" -- that manifest fraud.

Some see it as a sop to the fanatic UFO crowd with a greedy, monetary overlay.

Some see it as "pure" entertainment.

And a few of us see such broadcast endeavors as a continuation of the prostitution of TV for various reasons, the prominent one being a persistence of perverse capitalistic enterprise.

At any rate, ETs are not coming, have never come, nor are here now, to invade or do anything else.

An ET suggestion is pathology at its exampled best, nothing more, nothing less.

    Does not anyone, consider that just "maybe" it's because there "IS" something to all this, for the time and effort, attempt to inform people. Sure, not everyone is going to buy into it, and yes! Money rings a bell for everyone who organizes such an important event...BUT WHY, the great push on all Media, if there is nothing to it!?

    The evidence in time & history is everywhere, in books, on TV. on Radio, on the internet,local conversations in the immediate area of sightings, around the world, can't all be wrong, can it!? No, there's something going on that should not be ignored, like an ostrich, with it's head in the sand. If YOU, have reason to be curious about UFO sightings, STICK WITH IT!! A doubting Thomas only beclouds the issue of interest, on this topic. You do not need to believe in this subject. If there IS nothing to it, so be it, but if there "IS" then at least your on the right path to satisfying curiosity. Not only that, but the question of what they are? is now confronted with NO owners; that is, NO ETs!?:)..It's like a car going down the road with no driver, or a plane with no pilot, well it could be a drone, Yes! but where is the owner of that drone? This is why people lean towards the ET Hypotheses.

    If these thing exist,and it's apparent they do, world wide! Then who or what, owns them??? In a nutshell, I would say, It's a mixed bag of circumstances; some things seen,are not what people think,and some things are, exactly what have been seen..

    Those are what we are interested in,and only what we're interested in.The genuine sightings,world wide.The fact that these genuine sighting are excepted as being a real event,in the reality of the sightings, leads the question; who's craft? where from? and Why?

    What are they, has many more questions, of the craft itself, like, is it more than just a craft? I'd say yes! Well, it vanishes! Where to? and so on..

    Rich does not believe in the ETs visiting earth, but he does believe in UFOs here on earth, so this leads him to question what are UFO?

    Well my question is, What's behind the UFO? Something or someones got to be in possession of them, and where did they come from, if these things are genuine, in the reality of what people see, not just in the US. but around the world............

  • I think it's quite simple: TV production companies go with what is popular at the relevant time and what they hope and think they can sell to the networks. One month they may make a series of 6 episodes of a UFO show, because UFOs are big news right now. The following month they may make a cooking series. The month after that, a series on hidden treasure. And the list goes on and on. TV production companies. There's no agenda (sinister or otherwise) and all the shows on UFOs right now have nothing to do with UFO Disclosure. We all have to work (lottery winners aside, LOL), and that goes for TV production companies too. They go with what will sell. That's all. No bigger picture than that.

    But I could see the Channels zeroing in on, let's say, the UAP videos, without the patter about aliens or extraterrestrial visitation, hinted or otherwise.

    TV leans on that ET factor. It's what makes (common) sense, whereas everything else is a bit far out, or too exotic for the masses.

  • That's true, but TV production companies take a look at what is currently very popular, and they want to grab a bit of it before it dies off. And when they do die off, it's just a case of pitching to the networks a show on talking dogs or on some crazy, botoxed family and their manufactured problems.

  • I do a lot of TV shows and one of the things really stands out: most of the people producing the shows know very little about the subject, even next to nothing at all. That's because they aren't UFO researchers, nor are they pushing an agenda to "let the people know the truth." TV production companies are no different to a plumbing company, a roofing company, a car repair shop, etc etc. We all have to earn a living, and production companies are no different. Like any job, you have to project ahead and sell your product. That's what the world of TV does.

    Rich, your question of; "what UFOs may really be" suggests something aside "different" from the nuts & bolts side of it, that are on many peoples minds, mine included! but you know, that's OK with me, the penny dropped, along time back:) All bases, covered yes? Just a different agenda of view points, that's all, it's fine..

    I believe it's a mixed bag of circumstances on this subject..............

    good point, I don´t understand why it´s always the same old dull unrealistic ET hypothesis when there´s some kind of UFO documentary (or maybe "documentary"). I think it´s what Nick wrote, "most of the people producing the shows know very little about the subject". And it´s much easier to repeat the old UFO cliches (they come from outer space and want to inspect us or bring a message of the importance of Galactic peace and of utopia that´s waiting just around the corner and whatever). Now this could be a real UFO conspiracy, always accepting and discussing the ET hypothesis with all those weird close encounters, who would really take them seriously..? And so, UFOs, for most people are a joke...

    Hey Rich!

    Did you ever think you'd be in total agreement with the Skeptics?

    A famous NASA engineer and space journalist said almost the same thing about so-called ufologists: If they would ever get out of the way, we may find that there IS some reality--some real science--behind all these stories.

    But as an advocate of the Null hypothesis he was being a scientist, and I stand firmly with him. I'm open to any idea, but not so open that my brains fall out.

    Hahaha!

    As I've elucidated a dozen times before, the ETH is a preposterous fantasy for why people make "UFO" reports. Space travel is so very prohibitively dangerous for all.
