The dearth of culture in Ufology and UFOs themselves
Copyright 2020, InterAmerica, Inc.
I’ve often broached the topic of culture (art, literature, and music) that seems to be lacking in the UFO phenomenon…..recently also.
And since there is a defined lack of culture amongst UFO enthusiasts, as can be evidenced by their activity and writings and particularly spotted on Facebook where the proclivity is for foolishness and technological ramblings that are chintzy in thought and reign heavily within all the material splurged by UFO people, many who are “friends” of mine, one might assume that the UFO phenomenon is largely a projection of these heady doses of barbaric simplicity.
That is, UFOs are nothing more than what Jung hinted at, projections from the puerile minds of the persons who think they’ve spotted them [UFOs, flying saucers, orbs, triangles, et cetera].
I asked, within the various UFO groups on Facebook, some containing thousands of members, if anyone recalled, as did I, of a book that listed sightings wherein the witness saw inside the UFO or where “abductees” took notice of the insides of the craft they thought kidnapped them.
No response of a book title but some members liking the idea that there might be a book out there with such a theme.
But I’m still trying to gather sightings where witnesses saw what could be called refined culture or even iconography indicating leaders or religious beings, something or someone who is exalted by those or that which supposedly pilots or rides inside UFOs.
Betty Hill’s book doesn’t work, as I’ve noted many times: an advanced species would communicate outside a book format – requiring pagination, even paper or something similar (metal sheaths for example), -- unlikely, as books are evolutionary within the eras of Earth development., culminating so far as Kindles, as I’ve mentioned here a short while ago.
And the symbol (or insignia) seen by police officer Lonnie Zamora – no matter which one is the one he saw – is too Earthian to be considered anything but a product of some organization residing on this planet. As are the few other symbols allegedly seen on UFOs: UMMO, et cetera:
Yes, culture, as we know it, does not exist amongst ufologists and not among that which purports to be from outer space, our future, or another dimension.

My guess is the problem lies in the UFO topic's relegation to the "fringe." The "mainstream" certainly has worked hard to ensure that UFOs aren't a respectable interest for anyone. Predictably this means people higher on the "social scale" will be more reticent to get involved in the UFO area. So we tend to primarily see weirdos and ignoramuses instead. This doesn't negate the contributions of very intelligent and successful people to the field: McDonald and Vallee and Hynek et al. And our own RR of course.
The observation of a lack of culture (or independent culture?) on the part of UFOnauts is interesting. I suppose the Distortion Theory best explains this.

Thanks Martin for the compliment.
I think the people here are rather refined....you are certainly.
But I started collecting some of the nonsense filling the UFO area of Facebook hoping to illustrate how goofy things are among the current ufological gang(sters).
They are all, pretty much, nice people, just devoid of refinement....or keeping it hidden perhaps.
That UFOs, close up (if the witnesses are reporting correctly) do not show any presence of display....fundamental or otherwise....strikes me as odd and maybe pertinent.

I'm not sure that this is necessarily odd. A peek inside our own moon lander (LEM) on the moon by aliens would reveal things technological (dials, flashing lights, etc.) but hardly any evidence of Plato's thoughts or Fred Astaire's dance moves. If they conclude that we are devoid of culture simply based on what they observe they would be dead wrong.

A good point Dom, but not a "word" or signifier for Off or On?

I don't recall ever having a detailed dream; they all seem to come in broad strokes. If these encounters are mind-generated, should we expect minutiae? OTOH, AI machines have no use for bric-a-bracs. Even two choices are one too many.

Dominick: Did you see my response re: Exeter?

Ron:
The absence of insignia or writing and images makes me think that the control is by AI machines.
There are no cultural artifacts by machines, surely.

But you saw no doubt, RR, the national story this week about the AI, (i.e., intelligent machine) that wrote an entire essay in response to several prompts and questions from humans about violence and other matters of cultural importance. Not exactly a "cultural artifact" exactly but not a bad beginning. (More literate than essays from entering college freshmen I would add). And remember, we are only at the the beginning of the the AI revolution.

Oh sure Dom...I'm all for AI advance as you know.
But I can't imagine an AI "intelligence" being sentimental and putting up pictures in their craft of their "creator."

Well I certainly can imagine it Rich. It all depends on what the programmer puts in the software. (Remember Data and his evil twin?)
And Martin, yes, I finally did read that alleged explanation of the Exeter sighting and I find it much harder to accept than the original report, warts and all. It's a typical skeptical debunking project where the author throws in every possible alternative explanation in an effort to discredit multiple eye witness testimony and basic common sense. But it is far too long (winded) for any specific rebuttal here. The curious can read it and draw their own conclusions.
