UFO Conjectures

Doing nothing, really…..

Copyright 2022, InterAmerica, Inc.
Inside the UFO community, a lot of us are engaged in what could almost be called “nothing.”

Each of us has a small pocket of persons paying attention to what we're doing, but that’s it.

In the April 11, 2022 New Yorker’s “Talk of the Town” section is a story of a woman who has almost 2 million followers on TikTok, but, after reading about her, she too is doing nothing….really.

Like others, in that section of the magazine, her activity is, by all reasoning, nothing.

Many of the news media people I write about in Fort Wayne are out of town on Spring Break, the city’s sojourn where people scoot to Florida, mostly to post on Facebook their few days there…..doing nothing. (They try to make their FB audience jealous.)

Doing mundane, banal things has become a mainstay of existence, and lots of people like reading or hearing about those mundane, banal and worthless activities.

Within UFO circles, doing nothing – such as collecting or promoting old UFO books and reports or talking about the good ol’ flying saucer days – is copy for blogs (like this one) or web-site fodder.

But like that New Yorker mentioned dame, with 2 million followers, doing nothing has become a thing within the ufological crowd.

The phenomenon has we enthusiasts stifled……frozen in a state of bored stasis from which I see no light at the end of any tunnel.

We’re all going through the motion of UFO dithering, with nothing showing up that’s worth a hill of beans.

UFOs are as they have always been: enigmatic, worthless as a commodity, and without one scintilla of intellectual value, apparently and actually.

So, why do we persist? You tell me.

  • Thankfully this has never become an obsession. It does remain a compelling mystery that nags, though I don't ever expect it to be resolved. However, the questions it raises about science and history are side roads that have their own worth.

I wonder about the gatekeepers that have taken on the task of keeping this all under wraps. Several generations worth, who have bought into this thing, I suppose all convinced they're doing God or country's work. Must be something pretty important that's produced such an ongoing commitment.
