MIB

A 1963/64 Outer Limits airing (in two parts) called The Inheritors presented Men In Black, who were not alien beings but government agents.

The not-viewed aliens were preparing humans – kids with various afflictions – for transport to a planet where they (the kids) would receive corrective care and a better life.

This is a trans-juxtaposition of how the MIB was being presented in UFO literature at the time, and going forward: the MIB are thought to be alien entities, with malevolent intent.

In the OL show, the MIB (government agents) acted with malevolent intent.

How did the MIB meme get turned on its head?

  • One of the best TOL episodes. The government agents were acting out of compassion for the kids, trying to save them, but were helpless against the power of the infected human-aliens in luring the children away. It wasn't until the last scenes that the true mission of these hybrids was revealed. This episode was literally swarming with black suits; funny in retrospect.

Nick Redfern has gone into detail about Albert Bender's role in the beginnings of the MiB.

  • Remember the time a scientist used a laser to bring an alien to his lab but his wife was caught in his impenetrable force shield? That was spooky.

  • Interesting to witness the Americanocentric viewpoint that is as long as its history that lasts only two centuries. The MIB phenomenon, or better stated, the lore of men in black garments, is of course much older. And Bender, with his predilection for schlock horror picked up on this. It's just a folkloric trope of small significance. There are, for instance, no waves of MIB stories going on todays.
