The Kardashev Scale and advanced intelligence

The Kardashev Scale is an idealized rumination about extrater- restrial civilizations, how they are determined by the extent to which they capture and use energy.

There are three original categories, with newer categories ap- pended more recently.
 
As you’ll read in the Wikipedia outline, the scale suggests that an advanced species or Civilization 2 would gather and use energy from a star and a Civilization 3 would gather and use energy from an entire galaxy. (Earth is a Civilization 1 according to the scale.)
 
The conjecture was posed by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev at the 1964 Byurakan conference, a scientific meeting about the Soviet radio astronomy space listening program.
 
I’m not going to extend the hypothesis here but do want to use it to make an inquiry about advanced intelligence.
 
The suggestion of high or advanced intelligence to create the structures necessary to collect and use the energy of cosmic en- tities make for my discussion here.
 
What exactly is advanced intelligence?
 
Is it the understanding of physics and technology – like that needed to create the means of capturing and using a star’s or galaxy’s energy?
 
Or is it something else?
 
Are the cultural refinements of Earth’s intelligent species – humanity – advanced? Or the control of illness and disease?
 
Again, are the aspects of culture – literature, music, art, dance – even refined eating and drink – what determines advanced intelligence?
 
And just how far can intelligence be advanced? To the point where death is muted and a species has immortality?
 
How much more can a species advance go beyond controlling its environment, as extensive as taking hold of a star or galaxy and submitting its natural state to the whim of a species rather than the physical laws that ultimately control the agencies of energy?
 
That is, is a species advanced that controls its destiny in ways that seem impossible to lesser species?
 
Or is there more to being advanced? Or can we be satisfied that a species controlling its energy source is far and away advanced, cognitively beyond what we can imagine?
 
Is survival the ultimate indication of advanced intelligence or is it something else?
