Ufology needs something
Obviously, the “Roswell slides” matter is kaput, and MUFON,
even with a seemingly hefty “conference” in Florida currently, has lost its
cachet with serious UFO buffs.
UFO sightings continue apace but no one really cares. They
are ho-hum sightings.
Roswell, despite some good books (Kevin Randle’s, Jose
Caravaca’s Spanish publication, and Gilles Fernandez’ 2010 French issue)
correct and clarify that iconic incident, the “myth” has become boring for many
(most?) UFO devotees.
The Ancient Astronaut theories have become laughable, alien
abductions too.
Past UFO cases have become fossilized, and no one wants to
pursue them forensically or even superficially. They are encrusted with mildew,
having been hacked to fetid mince-meat, even here, at this blog.
Other topics have usurped UFOs in the public mind and
ufological mind also.
So, what can revive ufology? Can it be revived? Or is it,
for all practical reasons, stone dead?

Sad to see that Billy Cox has retired his De Void column and moved on to non-UFO matters. His explorations of the Aguadilla, Puerto Rico/Customs and Border Patrol case from 2013 should have provoked lots of talk but still failed to move the needle significantly. We still have you, Rich, and Kevin, but it's gonna take Klaatu landing on the White House lawn to shake up this moribund subject.

Ron...
That's exactly what would be needed to engage us UFO aficionados again.

I won't claim that UFOlogy "needs" the "Roswell debate" I'll be having with Donald Schmitt at 3:30 pm on Saturday, October 15at the Milwaukee Paranormal Conference (www.milwaukeeparacon.com), but the debate might just help put the Roswell story out of its misery once and for all. The event will be carried live on KGRA Radio (www.kgraradio.com).
