A 1974 Spanish sighting similar to the 1964 Socorro event (and a clarification of Jose Caravaca's Distortion Theory)
Copyright 2017, InterAmerica, Inc.
My friend and colleague Spanish UFO researcher Jose Antonio
Caravaca sent me this 1974 Spanish UFO incident, that has elements similar to
the well-known 1964 Lonnie Zamora/Socorro case:
“On May 24, 1974, about 11:00 am, Demetrio Carrascosa, 53,
in San Clemente (Cuenca), was traveling on his motorcycle near the river Rus
when he spotted a spherical dark-green object. It was about 4 meters
long and about 3 meters high. The artifact was supported on 4 legs of about
15 centimeters wide and 2 meters in length. The witness said that in its
central part had several "windows", 6 or 7, like metal painted
white, with a black border. In its lower part, the object had a kind of
"nozzle". At that moment, for the impression, Demetrio fell off his
motorcycle. When he approached the artifact to observe it better, about 70
meters, suddenly he felt a tremendous clatter and the apparatus rose quickly
as stones and earth jumped. The landing gear retreated as it appreciated 4
"jets" of smoke. The windows swirled (maybe all the object).
Demetrio said he felt a strong smell of sulfur. The witness reported that it
sounded like a jet. It disappeared into the distance. Immediately Demetrio looked [for someone to whom he could recount his observation and he found a] shepherd [who with Demetrio] verified, half an hour later, [that the object left] 4 holes [in the ground when] the object [departed in a cloud of] smoke. Both verified
that they had a depth of more than 1 meter. An enologist working in a village
factory told researchers that in the area where the object had landed, there
was a piece of land measuring 1 meter in diameter where the vegetation was
totally dry. He also noticed that 2 of the 4 tracks, were 20 and 25 centimeters
respectively in diameter and were separated by about 50 centimeters. The other
2 tracks, were 10 centimeters in diameter and were distanced by 1.5 meters, but
the curious thing is that they had a depth of more than 1 meter. Each of the
larger holes had, in turn, 3 holes of 3 centimeters deep enough. All the holes
had the walls burned. The laboratory analyzes did not detect radiation, and
indicated that the soil samples obtained in the traces had been subjected to
"a high temperature heat source from 2000 to 3000 C.” [I have
emboldened those aspects of the sighting that are somewhat similar to the
Socorro event, and bracketed emended details by me to clarify the account.]
I asked Jose, who is researching the episode further, if his
Distortion Theory, which has been presented here many times, explains
this event.
(Jose’s Distortion Theory is premised by what he
calls an “external agent” – a psychical element that interacts with UFO
witnesses and is bit more delineated, by Jose, than Jacques Vallee’s “other.”)
Here is Jose’s supplement to this sighting, wherein he
offers his views of how his “external agent” operates:
“Rich, The case is unique. It was certainly real. The
researchers involved, did not find the causes that [explained] the sighting.
Vicente Manglano and Ballester Olmos said that this incident: "… fits
extraordinarily to the typology of Vallee or to the close encounters of Second
type of Hynek"...
I honestly do not know what to think ... these things are
very rare ...
It was virtually impossible for the witness to know Lonnie's
story. Surely we are faced with some kind of hallucination orchestrated from
our unconscious but directed in part by an unknown agent, which acts as a
detonator. I believe that the energies involved in these
"hallucinations" (projections), derive from a complex psychic
process, [and] are the cause of these
images to have matter. But since this does not happen in all cases, even if
they have the same ingredients at stake, this indicates that in some way the
potential of the witnesses is the primary factor that will determine two
fundamental aspects: 1. The richness of details and complexity of the
experience. 2. That the recreated scene (projection) contains matter.
You know that the main point in common with experiences of
fairy visions, Marian apparitions, ghosts and even UFOs is that the witnesses
appear to be in an altered state of consciousness. That is an important key to
my study.
You think how many UFO cases there are similar to each
other, but different in nuances of each other. This is a sign that the basic
elements; "flying saucer/landing/humanoids" are objects of variation
on the part of the witnesses using their own information. What happens … is that
conjunctions of elements can almost coincide, but never 100%, because there are
many UFO sightings. In the same way that a teacher of a school, who asked his
students to make a story, based on several common elements, would make the
majority of stories … different but sometimes coinciding in some aspects.
The external agent can use some common points, but the
personal creativity of each witness can develop the experience widely. In this
UFO incident in Spain, the color, the windows, do not seem to coincide with the
sighting of Zamora, although the reminiscences are clear.
It is as if we had tried to understand or decipher the set
of thousand dreams, a thousand different people, thinking that all obeyed the
same cause. Or what is the same, assuming that all these dreams came from a
common source that communicated with the thousand sleepers to send the same
message. In our wild race to get common patterns or a global explanation for
this huge amount of dreams, we would extract so many different and disparate
elements that it would make our task an impossible task. We would irremediably
transform purely subjective experiences (with some nexuses of union between
them) into complex belief systems. In addition, for greater complexity, as with
the study of UFOs, this analysis would lead us to formulate a multitude of
questions and theories that simply do not have answers, because we do not face
a great and unique question.
And how would distortion theory explain the electromagnetic
alterations and failures noted on vehicles, television sets and radios, clocks,
etc.? Simple. As these effects are not recorded in the bulk of the UFO
casuistry, even if we have the same elements at play, distance with the object
from the witness, etc., this clearly indicates that these "sequelae"
must have a different origin to the mere presentation or presence "sine
qua non" of the phenomenon before the witness, since otherwise, they would
always be recorded, in each of the manifestations of the UFOs. Probably these
derivations, adjudicated to date for the purposes of the "propelling
source" of UFOs or the effects derived by the irruption of these
intelligences from "other dimensions", can have two origins: 1. They
can be a consequence of the " energy "emanated by the" creation
"(projection) of the External Agent. 2. The External Agent is able to
interact "physically" with our environment, which could cause, in
addition to the appearance of traces or remains, different tangible effects on
the witness and / or the surroundings.
Although we must also bear in mind that since these effects
are not recorded in all cases, it is very possible that the participation of
witnesses also determines the presence of this factor. Since the potential of
some observers would not only affect the visual and intellectual richness of
the scenography put into operation by the AE, but also may lead to a greater
number of physical phenomena (blackouts, interference in radios and
televisions, etc.). Nor can it be ruled out that these actions are fruit of the
incorporation of unconscious elements of the witnesses who "imagine"
that this is produced by the appearance of the UFOs. It would also have to
determine in what degree of reality these effects occur, in certain occasions,
and if they would not be part or consequences of the projection itself.
And what happens to the injuries produced on the witnesses?
Could all these effects be caused by communication with an unknown External
Agent? We must not forget, on this point, that medical science has discovered
that psychosomatic diseases (induced by our mind) are more numerous than was
believed decades ago: "Difficulty sleeping, morning stiffness, anxiety,
headaches , dizziness, blindness, double vision, aphonia, dizziness, fainting,
nausea, tingling or numbness of the hands and feet, muscular paralysis,
tachycardia, memory loss or difficulty concentrating, skin diseases (psoriasis,
vitiligo, etc.), tiredness, etc."
Therefore the interaction with this unknown operator that
manipulates our mind could be the origin for infinity of sequels for our
organism. If the witness believes (unconsciously, imbued with his beliefs or
fears) that this object can damage, burn or blind him for example, it is likely
that the observer will be affected by these actions. But only if the energy involved
in the projection, the exclusive fruit of the conjunction of the EA and the
witness itself, is strong enough for it. And it is that according to the
analysis of the UFO casuistry, we can deduce that in not all the events, the
same springs are put into operation. Although the procedure is the same, the
potential of each person, may derive not only in unique and exclusive
experiences, but are more energetic than others. And all probably because of
the intensity of each observer's beliefs. In addition, this link with the AE
can activate latent diseases or accelerate certain pathologies.
What is clear, for Distortion Theory, is that no witness will see or access any information that is not capable of imagining or that is latent in the popular imagination, since the External Agent is fundamentally neutral in its contributions. And it is for this simple reason that apparitions will always be synchronous with the epoch of manifestation and there is no need to look beyond or theorize about "intelligent" camouflages or "systems of control." By this approach we could find a person in the last century, who can give many details of a supernatural experience, by its intrinsic ability to interact with the AE, due to its rich informational / imaginative personal baggage, and on the contrary, we can, at present, find a witness who describes a UFO experience very sparse in detail. Everything depends on the observer. We repeat. What can not be found in the psyche of the witnesses will never be visualized in an encounter."
I think Jose has a book coming forth that clarifies his
Distortion Theory and the “external agent” that is integral to it.
As you can see, Jose’s Distortion Theory is rather complex
but I see within it, a possible explanation for many UFO sightings, especially
those that include “entities.”
While the 1974 sighting above is devoid of beings, its
superficial similarities to the Socorro incident invites, for those wishing to
be serious about what causes UFO sightings, a possible explanation for UFO
sightings – not all, but many.

RR,
After several readings the EA is still unclear to me. Seems that if External we are talking a about your non-favorite the trickster or an entity that can deceive us, the Collective Unconscious, or the like and still an "other." Can't be God because "God would not deceive us."
If it is a mind/brain event then is Internal.
Am I missing something here?

To define it better, it is a mind /brain event that provoked by an external agent. The consequence of this process is the projection of a three-dimensional image that can be observed by more people and that at times can contain matter and be tangible. The external agent is neutral in intentionality. It confines itself to "working" with the internal resources of the witness. Therefore, the content of UFO experiences will be determined by the individual participation of each witness, and never by the derived and premeditated action of the phenomenon.
Thanks...

Jose,
Thank you for the follow up. It is certainly and interesting theory and I look forward to your book coming out so as to read more of it.
I would like to know what you think spawns these events especially when the observer is astounded by an unexpected experience while focused on other a task at hand.
It also makes me wonder if or how this explanation might explain physical objects seen that defy a commonality with other reported sightings.
Thanks again.

Bryan Daum...
It is complicated to determine the nature of the external agent. What I have clear, is that it is not a Control System or anything complex.
The External Agent in occasions, by interactivity with the witnesses, is able to grant matter to the projections (so that they appear real). And evidently, if the EA uses the same documentary base to construct its fictional experiences of extraterrestrial visitation, it is obvious that after thousands of close encounters, we find parallels. But you have to keep in mind, that the bulk of the UFO casuistica, has no continuity whatsoever. These are isolated episodes. We can not trace a uniform story from case to case.
thanks for your comments

Hello,
Looks like an Army helicopter (Ballester-Olmos 1976 catalogue "insists" to the Dark-Green Kaki color of the object, mentionned by the witness). Good case ;)
BTW, and concerning helicopter, I'm presenting/investigating a new hypothesis concerning Zamora 1964 sighting involving an helicopter too, cause the dynamite deposit and his use...
Will probably write an article at my blog, for the moment in our FB group for help and to investigate this hypothesis.
Gilles.

Gilles:
I've done a few postings here about the possibility of Zamora's craft being a Hughes helicopter.
You can find those posts by using the Blog's search spot on the upper left of the blog.
I'm looking forward to your evaluation, as the helicopter scenario seems more than acceptable in many ways.
