Jose Caravaca’s external agent and UFOs

Copyright 2017, InterAmerica, Inc.

As most of my readers know, I find Jose Caravaca’s Distortion Theory interesting and his concept of an external agent in control of or instigating some UFO encounters intriguing.

But Jose’s external agent has been a stumbling block for many who’ve stumbled upon his theory here and at his various internet sites.

Lately, as Jose has come to interpret (or explicate) his external agent one could almost call it an internal agent as Jose seems to put a psychic patina on the “mechanism” that causes people to think they’ve seen a UFO land, often debarking a crew of extraterrestrial visitors to Earth.

Moreover, Jose suggests that spiritual (religious) visions were created in witness minds by his external agent: Fatima, Lourdes, and many other apparitions, as listed in The Encyclopedia of Religious Phenomena by J. Gordon Melton [Visible Ink Press, Canton, MI, 2008, Page 11.]

The idea of a controlling mental activity – entity – is not far-fetched.

Freud’s id and superego are such, as is Jung’s collective unconscious or George Groddeck’s it and the many processes of the unconscious as enumerated in the scholarly 932 page The Discovery of the Unconscious by Henri F. Ellenberger [Basic Books, NY, 1970].

Lancelot Law Whyte’s The Unconscious Before Freud [Anchor Books, Doubleday & Company, Garden City, NY, 1962] also provides ample examples of mechanisms of mind that interact with humans as if separate entities.

Two recent books that I’ve mentioned here recently also deal with the mental constructs that appeared early on in human development and seems to have resonated with early man much in the way that Jose suggests his external agent has interacted with those who have had a UFO or religious experience:

Gods, Voices, and the Bicameral Mind: The Theories of Julian Jaynes edited by Marcel Kuijsten [Julian Jaynes Society, Henderson NV, 2016]

Inside the Neolithic Mind: Consciousness, Cosmos and the Realm of the Gods by David Lewis Williams and David Pearce [Thames & Hudson, London, 2009]

Now I know most of you won’t get or read any of the books mentioned above – well, maybe Terry the Censor – but they all open the door to understanding Señor Caravaca’s external agent.

Jose’s concept of a mental configuration assuming the role of a controlling agency within humans differs in essence and kind from Jacques Vallee’s controlling agent insofar as Mr. Vallee allows his controller to lie outside the human, a paranormal construct that has a life of its own separate and apart from the person being introduced to a vision or event.

Jose Caravaca’s agent, as best as I can grasp it, is neurological/psychological entity in the scheme of those activities mentioned above in the books I’ve noted.

That a mental activity has a life of its own is hard to understand. I know that. And Jose knows that also.

But it’s the crux of his theory and works to explain many UFO encounters where a UFO or spacecraft is endemic and any crew that is witnessed behaves within the experience and mental configuration of the person witnessing the odd scene, a scene created uniquely for that person.

That two or more persons may relate similar observations or experiences can be explained by various psychological determinations, such as folie à deux, ordering or formative process, among others. (See books above.)

Now this is my take – my understanding – of Jose Antonio Caravaca’s external agent.

Don’t hold him to my interpretation. After all, it’s his theory and I’m just a fan of it.

  • Interesting; In other words, an "external agent" influencing a projection, that interfaces with the mind of another, as a "witness" Seeing a "Ghost or UFO" that is not really there, but appears to be.

The Question remains! - What is real? & what is projected artificially? From where, & by what, or by whom??

How could one determine? What is real, & What is not? How ever you think about it, the fact remains, something was seen & responsible for having seen it.............

  • Daniel... The concept of reality is very broad. The "projection" of this external agent, has the same character as seeing a car parked outside your door.If you believe that this is real, the consequences within your psyche will be the same as anything else that surrounds you in your daily life.

  • Thank heavens, I have no car parked outside my door:)...............

  • Yabut, what about physical evidence i.e., radar returns, ground impressions, burnt bushes, inexplicable photos, ala Zeitun, Egypt, etc and that sort of thing? Are these the result of an internal manifestation of an "external agent?" I like the concept but it isn't "one-size-fits-all" by any stretch...

  • Christopher...

I don't think Jose means for his "theory" to cover all UFO phenomena, just those where humanoids or landings with detailed common artifacts (screw drivers, military helmets, et cetera) appear to the witness.

You might do well to check out his online blog and Facebook page (which he's provided links to I think).

He'd be a good guest for the Paracast.

  • I've said this once before years ago about this theory. If "they" are using our own mental expectations or manipulating what we can see by using parts of our internal image encyclopedia, then why don't we see "Mars Attacks" Martians, Wookies, Vulcans, Cthulhu, etc.? Instead we get light beings, humans, greys, tall greys, mantises, lizards, hairy humanoids, and creepy black shadowy cloaked figures. If a mantis or grey is what they want to "tap" to manipulate me, well those aren't the most endearing creatures...I may fear them but I also may see them as weak and attack them. Then they always reportedly say "Don't Fear!"...yet you are trying to manipulate how I see you and can't do better? Doesn't add up to me.

Even the so called sexy aliens are still not quite human enough to attract their target...if they can tap my mind, I'd want a young Raquel Welch (heck give me two if you can!), but instead we get a reported big eyed, wig wearing, female form that doesn't look right. Which to me you could genetically create, heck we have humans that look a little off but they aren't mental creations. If they want our sexual response and can pull from our minds, then that's the best they can do? That leads to my other question...if they can manipulate what we see, then why not just make themselves invisible constantly to us to eliminate us from being in the way or witnessing them at all?

There's a bit of Talosian power (Star Trek the original series) in they can mess with your mind. I'm sure they do to some degree since they apparently know how to freeze our nervous systems with some sort of light beam, but what they are showing themselves as is failing to me...they aren't attractive nor repulsive, they are just weird, but we have earth animals that look weird too, and they aren't manipulating my mind. I think the theory is one to keep in mind (pun intended) but I don't see this mind power as being likely or as powerful as expected, or if it is real, very well executed in function. And the part that bugs me is that it can be too easily used as a "catch all" answer for introducing doubt into every encounter--nothing is real--you were manipulated so what you saw is not a true experience.

"They" obviously are manipulators, maybe for their own indifferent reasons, or maybe to help our own psyche by allowing us to dismiss them; that it probably wasn't real, I can and society can hold off on accepting there are aliens or non-human "intelligences" in our day to day existence. Keeping their activities dreamlike introduces doubt, it helps them and probably helps us, but leaves some of us investigators that see through it to grasp at straws and theories (and argue and point fingers)--for now.
