À la recherché du UFOs perdu

In the Albert Rosales’ Humanoid Encounters book for
the 1930-1949 period, my current read, there are quite a few fabulous
remembrances of UFO-inspired contacts.
I assume from the Sources noted that almost all of the
accounts presented are not from the dates for the “encounters” but, rather, are
recalled events later discovered or provided by UFO enthusiasts.
While remembered events suffer from lapses or accretions
accumulated over the years, embellishing a common or hallucinatory episode,
most of the “recalled” encounters are flush with details that offer a kind of
certitude, even if a fictional certitude.
In the sightings presented there are the observations of
dwarf-like entities, alongside more observations of entities that are
attractive in the contactee sense of the 1950s. (See Nick Redfern’s
book, Contactees, for an elaborate enumeration of what kinds of beings
were said to have been encountered by the likes of George Adamski, Orfeo Angelucci,
Truman Bethurum, Howard Menger, et al.)
Most humanoid encounters recounted in Mr. Rosales’ books,
for the period prior to the Betty/Barney Hill ‘abduction” or the after-1978
Roswell litany of little gray beings displaced by a supposed crashed flying disk,
are divided into two categories: small entities and normal height, attractive
beings, with an occasional offering of very tall beings.
The drove of reports Mr. Rosales has gathered are often
mesmerizing in their swelter of other-worldly (not necessarily
extraterrestrial) appearances of beings accompanied by a strange craft, often
described as flying saucer-like or cigar-shaped.
What accounts for the similarity in the recollected
encounters?
Many of the episodes have the tincture of verisimilitude:
1945/Ohio – A woman carrying cartons to her shed saw a large
metallic, cigar-shaped object hovering overhead. The object had a protruding
ramp on one side and large lighted windows. Several, moving human-shaped
figures could be seen inside. She ran into her house and locked herself in her
bathroom. [HE, Lillian Desguin, Page 263]
1945/Missouri -- Hearing a loud humming sound the witness
saw a metallic, domed disk hovering about his garage. A humanoid was looking
out. The craft left following the contours of the terrain. [HE, Richard
Hall, Page 269]
Yet many also provide examples of hallucinations recalled or
unrepressed, sometimes with accreted, modern day details:
1931/Ukraine – a strange hovering globe with a unhelmeted
man sitting on an invisible chair, sporting a light red beard and thick red
longish hair atop a wrinkled face. The globe with its occupant drifted and
vanished. [HE, Gershtein and Anfalov, Page 33]
1933/Russia -- Soviet scientist Alexander Zolotov, when age
7, saw, in his home, a high-foreheaded man with a large head and large pointed
ears, wrinkled skin and large, intelligent eyes jump around on all fours like a
frog. The being had a calm and penetrating gaze, completely emotionless. [HE,
Jacques Vallee, Page 63]
1946/Arizona – A Coast Guard man, 20, under hypnosis,
remembered that 32 years earlier his car stopped in front of a “Mexican hat”
under which shone two mechanical eyes, like diamonds, Three beings, without
feet glided toward his car. He remembered being in the air, hanging 1000 ft.
above and 1000 ft. behind his car, watching himself driving. [HE, James
Harder and Douwe Bosga, Page 292]
Yes, I’m a sucker for such UFO tales, no matter how polluted
by the vicissitudes of memory corruption, as I am of the belief that core memory
remains fairly accurate, even after a long period of time.
Amalgamated additions or deletions inside a remembered,
traumatic event are almost always perfunctory to such events.
Thus, when a person recalls a significant event for them,
they will present it inside a halo of accuracy, a reputable analyst able to
discern what is ancillary and what is relevant and germane (the “truth”).
Many accounts stand out as important within ufological lore.
But what exactly causes such a spate of recollections, real
or unreal?
That’s what needs to be determined: either there have been
intrusions into our reality by other world entities or there are an awful lot
of pathological persons running around.
