The “death” of UFO old-timers

Copyright 2024, InterAmerica, Inc.
It is palpably clear that the long-time UFO stalwarts no longer mat- ter when it comes to UFO discussions or matters (of any kind).

The UAP “take-over” doesn’t just remove the anacronym(s) flying saucers or UFOs, it also pushes the once notable and near-notable UFO personages, including writers of (some) note: my pal Nick Redfern, Preston Dennett, Jacques Vallee (yes), Albert Rosales, Erich von Däniken, et al. out of the UAP mainstream.

And the gamey UFO crowd – Greer, Bassett, the Ancient Astronaut boys, plus all the remembered UFO heroes of the past – Keyhoe, McDonald, Hynek, Ruppelt, and all the rest – no longer resonates, replaced by the podcasters and YouTubers, Instagramers, and Xers hogging the UAP spotlight.

The problem lies in the fact [sic] that the UAP crowd of millennials and newbies are tyros, incapable of discerning a true phenomenon – UFOs – from UAP, which are a litany of orbs – outstripping na- ture’s “physical laws (whatever that may be) and other flotsam flying in the wind or shining in the night (and day) sky.

Balloons are UAP.  Birds in flight too.  Clouds, drones, meteor- ological detritus and other non-significant observed things are the gist of UAP videos, phone camera photos and witness accounts.

People striving for attention – Knapp, Corbell, Grusch,  Coulthart, West, and others – have taken the spotlight away from UFO per- sonages who long held the attention of we who have been attracted to the phenomenon since its beginning (for us) in 1947.

The old-timers are all but defunct, useless mettle in the UAP dis- cussions and nonsense.

And the enigma becomes fodder for the ignorant masses who’ve assumed it for their purposes of self-glorification, as meager as that may be.

  • And the great old cases have died along with them. Today's sightings are meh, even the ones that don't have the scent of UAP to them.

  • Yah, the wham factor is gone...

But the UAP don't know that, not having "researched" the phenomenon.

  • Agreed. This is something I have expressed many times over recent years. The newer generation interested in UAPs knows little to nothing about UFOs or the history of the topic, or its researchers and major figures. Most could not name any of the hard working veteran researchers of the the 70+years outside a few big names like Hynek, Vallee. Worse, they have no interest in learning any of this stuff. IN their mind, ufology is irrelevant, the last several decades of Ufology and the people involved don't matter. These new folks say they accomplished nothing in all those years compared to all the progress in the last 5 (hahaha). They know the government has spaceships and bodies so the only goal should be getting the government to admit it publicly. Old cases and books dont matter. I know this because these people tell me this regularly. They are interest in the Disclosure movement, not Ufology. They are connected but not the same.

  • Perhaps, but who really cares, and why should it matter? The “old timers” continue on as they always have, interested in the subject for the sake of nothing more than their interest. That should be enough. As for the new generation of grifters, scammers, loons, and conspiracy wackos, let them have at it… just as they always have. Nothing has changed otherwise - it remains a fringe topic that the vast majority of people have at best a passing interest in, no different than who got nominated for an Academy Award, or who is sits at #1 in the NCAA basketball rankings each wee. Indeed, those two things are far more present in most people’s lives, at least here in North America, than UFOs are, have been, or most likely ever will be.

  • I couldn't agree more Paul:

But since I'm stuck in a UFO time-warp, I need -- for the sake of my mental disturbances -- required to push forward with these cathartic musings.

  • Well, given that you live in Indiana, I can understand why the #1 NCAA basketball ranking doesn’t matter to you. :D

  • I played Basketball in HS but can't watch the game today and rarely in the past: the back and forth running -- no creativity just dunk the ball in a hoop -- and then those sweaty, hairy underarms (I'm trying to snack here!)

It's too much or, rather, too little.

And Indiana fans are nuttier than the football fans I sometimes hook up with in Ann Arbor,
