Two “UFO events” that give me a headache

Copyright 2018, InterAmerica, Inc.

Hear me out….

On May 20, 1967, amateur prospector Stefan Michalak said he came across this object at Falcon Lake in Manitoba, Canada:
Here are two accounts of the alleged incident:

I’ve suggested, often here (and I apologize for regurgitating these incidents but they leave me questioning what really happened) that Michalak either stumbled upon a Canadian Defense Ministry test vehicle (pre-drone) or bumped into an out-of-area U.S. military test object.

I revised that view to accept, as a possibility, that Mr. Michalak may have even been confronted by an extraterrestrial AI drone.

The problem with that scenario, for me, is the primitive “exhaust” that supposedly burnt Michalak’s chest. That an AI/ET drone from an advanced civilization off Earth would spew a steam-like spray seems a bit old-fashioned.

Or I can accept my pal Zoam Chomsky’s Iron Skeptical refutation of the whole affair:

Then there is the Robert Taylor assault by this seemingly mechanical device:
I wouldn’t ascribe such a weird device to a British military device or drone; it’s a little fey.

Here is Wikipedia’s account of the November 9, 1979 incident:

In the Wikipedia offering is a suggestion of what happened to Mr. Taylor, an upright citizen of Scotland:

He suffered “an isolated attack of temporal lobe epilepsy.”

I find that etiological “explanation” satisfactory for several reasons but there are some niggling problems with it.

Mr. Taylor’s pants were torn, as it he actually was attacked by the mechanical  mace-like balls he said came out of the larger craft he stumbled upon.

And there were gouges in the ground as if something large had maneuvered in the spot where the device apparently beset Mr. Taylor.

I’ve suggested that Mr. Taylor, like Michalak, may have been attacked by an AI machine, one from an interplanetary probe.

The “craft” – I prefer device – was odd enough to seem other-worldly.

But the hallucinatory ambiance of the recounted affair seems more likely to me, and I’ve proffered that when Mr. Taylor collapsed, his pet dog, that was with him, may have tried to pull at him, ripping his pants in the doing.

But then there are those ground gouges.

  • Zoam makes a strong case against Michalak. Nice job. The jury is still out on the sterange Taylor episode.

  • Zoam is capable of making a case on anything, and on some things, I can agree, but this case on: May 20, 1967, amateur prospector Stefan Michalak said he came across this object at Falcon Lake in Manitoba, Canada.

I heard of this some years back, and his story caught my attention at the time, for two reason.

    (1) The burn marks on his chest & abdomen in a "grid formation" of spots.
How would one relate this, to something in the wilderness, while prospecting for mineral deposits or rocks, what have you? There IS nothing to relate to, other than his story. His gloves & cloths were burnt, backing up his story, with real evidence, of burns to his chest & abdomen, for the reason he was in hospital, very ill. There was "NO STEAM" It was the hiss of air, he reported. The open door was an invitation, to step in, and it's well that he didn't,or we might not have his story.

    (2) There was a high level of radiation reported, "on that very spot" and I suspect a great part of his illness in hospital, was the result of this.

To sum it up, I find his story to be credible, and therefore exceptional......

  • Here's Bob Taylor recounting his bizarre experience - possibly the ONLY ufo encounter to be logged as a crime by the Police as 'an assault by person or persons unknown'.

  • Daniel; Thanks, but even the Mountie who took Michalak's "flying saucer" report found him NOT credible--a drunk! There were multiple manned fire towers around the lake and none of the rangers saw "flying saucers."

The "flying saucers" Michalak described and drew are very much like that depicted on the "Invaders" TV show airing at the time; right down to glowing red when aloft and cooling to grey metal when landed, and a ring of rotating colored lights separating the disk from the cupola.

And the Hollywood trope of "looking inside and seeing nothing but banks of computers with rows of colored blinking lights" was already decades old in 1967! Dazzling Earthlike ET hardware is much easier than otherworldly ET biology.

What are the chances that real visiting ET spacecraft would be exactly like those depicted in a fictional TV show? Not very likely. So much so that it's impossible.

Michalak was the only witness, he was just a guy telling a "flying saucer" story for attention and money. Completely typical, and nothing to do any real ET visitation. Which is the real rub here: I'd like a REAL ET visitation account, not silly old stories so laden with Hollywood tropes than any kid could make it up.

Falsify the Null hypothesis. Show me something ALIEN!

Same for Robert Taylor, his "flying saucer" and the strange "space warping" orbs were seen in an episode of Dr Who.

Acid, magic mushrooms or poison berries, seizure or stroke could account for all the rest. There was also water tower nearby that could have had a part in Taylor's "flying saucer" narrative creation: the story that he made up to describe his "trip."

  • Good morning Zoam:

-> There were multiple manned fire towers around the lake and none of the rangers saw "flying saucers."<-

    *
This could mean the rangers either; were not there, not looking in the that direction, or simply didn't observe anything out of the ordinary, for what ever the reasons.

Michalak at first thought the craft might have been a Yankee experiment, but found no one around or even in the flying saucer. So I think, as Rich does; That this craft was an AI craft. No mention of ETs at all. So where the craft came from can be anyone's guess.

In all that you have pointed out, and I must say, a good try!:) You've not mentioned the burn marks on Michalak's chest & abdomen in a "grid formation" of spots.

Where on earth do you think he might have received these painful burn marks? I mean the grid formation of burn spots for a start, how would you relate these burns, from where or what? ESPECIALLY in the wilderness!? These burn are strange like nothing we have ever seen, but it CAN, relate to his story as reported.

And how, or where from, on the very site of where the flying saucer was, a high level of radiation reported, if not from the craft itself. If it wasn't, what did the radiation come from? on that very spot!?

-> Show me something ALIEN! <- Me too Zoam:)

But it does not need to be ALIEN, all the time, it could just as well be manufactured here on earth, from somewhere or even the US.for all we know, this is what makes these stories, so interesting. There is new technology coming out all the time, just look at area51 for example, not to speak of other countries with experiments. Why would it need to be ALIEN, not saying that it is, or isn't, because none of us really know, not even you......

  • Good day, Daniel;

    Addressing your points in order:

If the forest rangers saw nothing--and they did report that they saw NO thing--it's very likely that Michalak made the whole thing up.

There's a principle here known as the Argument from ignorance. Michalak can tell all the extraordinary stories he likes. Unless there's some evidence, it's safe to assume they're NOT true. Otherwise, anything could be true!

I don't remember Michalak claiming he thought that the TWO saucers were American aircraft. If he did, isn't that very similar to Ken Arnold's initial claim of "guided missiles?" See how this stuff is composed? Nearly every "UFO" report is some obvious mashup of elements from previous stories, movies, television, and literature.

Daniel, as I told RR from the get-go on this AI hypothesis for "UFO" reports: It's a solid idea. But manned or unmanned, it would still be a nuts-and-bolts spacecraft. And there is ZERO evidence of unknown spacecraft entering Earth's atmosphere.

Michalak burned himself. He burned his gloves, hat and shirt. He burned his stomach with some household or workshop item to produce a grid of burns. And he did it again later to maintain interest in his story!

I don't remember anything in the Mountie's report about physical injury on the day of the purported event. Much like Betty Cash and Vickie Landrum, Michalak was NOT injured immediately after his "flying saucer" encounter, his burns developed over time.

Daniel, the man was prospecting. Manitoba was thoroughly scraped by a glacier during the last Ice Age; there are unusually high levels of radioactivity in Manitoba. (It took me all of two seconds to confirm that suspicion based on your report.)

    >>-> Show me something ALIEN! <- Me too Zoam:) <<

Well, that's getting us somewhere, my friend.

    >> But it does not need to be ALIEN, all the time, it could just as well be manufactured here on earth, from somewhere or even the US.for all we know, this is what makes these stories, so interesting. There is new technology coming out all the time, just look at area51 for example, not to speak of other countries with experiments. For the ETH, I must demand something alien. Otherwise we're back to the wishful-thinking "advanced aerospace" hypothesis of Airships in 1896, Arnold in 1947. I've already described how they've been combined in the "ET saucers on secret aerospace bases in the Southwest" conspiracy nonsense! LOL Together or apart, they don't fly!

I'd be careful about making claims about what other people do or don't know, sir. E.g: Where are all those old "flying saucers?" I've seen lots of old jets in the desert, but no old "saucers." None! See how easy a proof is when rooted firmly in reality? Otherwise one is living by appealing to ignorance. That's Irrational. But some here are hesitant to adopt such certainty, no matter how profitable it's shown to be. Maybe in some future better organized society....

  • High Zoam:

-> Michalak burned himself. He burned his gloves, hat and shirt. He burned his stomach with some household or workshop item to produce a grid of burns. And he did it again later to maintain interest in his story!<-

    That's a wild story, Zoam!!!

Can't imagine anyone self inflicting themselves, with painful burn marks, that put them in Hospital very ill...Just to support their STORY??? sorry Zoam, that's unacceptable, & does not make sense, if you think it does, then you try doing that:)
I recommend you don't, we would be one skeptic less.

Then on the other hand:)........? You would prove your point:)....

By Blogger Daniel, at Saturday, June 30, 2018

  • I agree with Daniel's point: why would anyone subject himself (or herself) to the kind of pain and possible infection that Michalak suffered?

Just to get some kind of maybe fame?

    It's a stretch, Zoamer....

  • Before I make a case for self-harm in support of a "flying saucer" hoax, let me ask some things: If Michalak wasn't burned when he talked to the Mountie but was burned later, and he didn't burn himself, you seem to think, then how did he get burned?

How did Betty Cash get physically ill but not burnt while Vickie Landrum did get burned, but, again, only later? Hmmm? Something's not quite right here.

And what would cause a 747 pilot flying halfway around the world to make a 360° turn to try to shake a "giant mothership" off of his tail? That may not be self-harm but it's certainly self-endangering.

  • So you're saying there is madness involved?

    RR

By Blogger RRRGroup, at Sunday, July 01, 2018

  • Three interesting points you bring up, Zoam:

    (a) The Mountie on talking to Michalak, at that time, may not have been aware of Michalak's painful burns to his chest & abdomen, and might have mistaken the look of Michalak's painful discomfort, as; "being drunk"...

    (b) The two ladies, Betty Cash & Vickie Landrum, "BOTH" were affected by burns & blisters. Betty Cash, more so, as she alighted from the drivers side of the car they were in, and walked in front of the car for a better look at an upside/down pear shaped object, glowing a reddish/orange, to get a better look at this craft, havering in front of their vehicle. Because of doing this, she received a stronger dose of radiation from the craft. Vickie Landrum & her grandson stayed in the vehicle, and the young boy concealed himself under the front dashboard of the car, and was not harmed at all. Later on, Betty Cash went to her Government for some medical assistance, after a period of time, of illness over this, and was denied on the grounds that the Government was not responsible, for what had taken place.
These two ladies, it was said,...later died of radiation sickness & were very ill for some time. The young boy at the time since 1980 now a young man, is doing just fine, and tells his story of what took place, as he remembers...

    (c) The Pilot Zoam, would have had two choices.

Wait and see if the giant mothership comes close enough to collide with them, or make a 360 degree turn, as you say,to avoid a collision, given the trajectory.
