For Skeptics….only!
Jerome (Jerry) Clark, in Ray Palmer’s Flying Saucers
(magazine) for August 1965, Page 17, writing about UFOs as Mystery or Movement
contributes this about a charge that Mark Devlin, a UFO buff, made, at a 1964
UFO convention in Cleveland that ufologists are engaged in efforts to spread a
message that UFOs are space ships and the MYSTERY has become a MOVEMENT [Caps
in article]:
“We do not think that Devlin will disagree with us … when we
maintain that unidentified objects -- whatever they are -- do in fact, exist.
If they do not, there must be some fatal flaw in the standards by which we
objectively examine phenomena …
“Faced with the evidence, only the most bigoted, irrational
skeptic could deny that metallic, piloted machines, exhibiting all the
characteristics of some kind of advanced technology, are maneuvering in our
skies.”
I can’t imagine that Jerry Clark, in his geezer years now,
would still feverishly believe his 1965 statement, but there it is.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose…
