Freud and sexuality plus a view of ethicality/morality

The Super Bowl Half-Time show provoked a hot and heavy back-and-forth at Facebook via a media friend of mine’s posting.

And those who saw it surely would have seen the “performance” as a prime example of Freud’s thesis that sexuality is the underpin- ning of society and human behavior.

I won’t elaborate, because the matter is clear to those with the awareness that Freud’s genius remains intact and again on the rise among cognoscenti.

I also got (and saw it on Facebook too) what seems to be note about how one should not throw out the baby with the bathwater when it comes to moral or ethical lapses, even those of a serious kind, which I dealt with here a short while ago.

The person offering the comment(ary) think there’s gold, even inside the offerings from one who debases society and humanity with egregious beliefs or actions, such as Heidegger’s anti-Semitism.

Yes, Heidegger was brilliant but intellectually flawed by his anti-Semitism.

His anti-Semite views indicate a serious glitch in his thinking, which like a virus, impacted the whole of his thought, even if one wants to salvage something worthwhile by grubbing among the “philosophers” output.

The point is that one will be sidelined by an attempt to find the person free of moral or ethical taint.

No one is free of some kind of “sin” – not even Freud.

But such lapses as that of Heidegger is beyond the pale. He should have known better, his views exacerbating the Jewish slaughter that the Nazi’s, at the will of Hitler, brought decimation upon the whole of Judaism and the Jewish peoples, innocent and pure among them.

(This, again, goes to my view that those in the UFO community who traverse moral and ethical behavior, sinfully, have to be weighed with an evaluation of how serious their infractions are. 

Most are harmless and trivial, in the great scheme of things. So, let's not get bogged down by ufological mischief. It really doesn’t matter; it’s just time-consuming trying to sort out what’s true and what isn’t.)

As for hanging on to those who have transgressed real ethical and moral boundaries, they can be discarded totally. Keeping them “alive” is abetting their miscreant behavior and thought, even if there are some nuggets of gold within their hard-hearted oeuvre.

So, to those who keep flogging Freud or lauding persons like Hei- degger, give it a rest.
