Looking for UFO insights (or, perhaps, mystical revelations)

While books are the manna from Heaven for some of us (Bryan, Terry, me, and some of you), they are more than a good read; they may be the source of secret knowledge and arcane truths.

Terry the Censor collects books. Bryan Sentes absorbs them. I look to them for sustenance.

I've had a few that have provided me with a world view that has molded who I am: Melville's Moby Dick, Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Hervey M. Cleckley's  The Caricature of Love plus others of lesser import, perhaps.

And alongside books relevant to the UFO milieu are a few works by or about authors that may open the doors to paranormal percep- tion wherein lies our real reality which UFOs hint at. This is one:

The 944 page tome offers the thinking and ephemera that inserted itself inside Philip K Dick's fertile and fevered brain.

The book is a beast to read (for me, anyway) but, like the works of John Keel and Meister Eckhart,  it contains hints (and actual profound intuitions) from which one may derive some idea of what this existence is all about.

Except for the mystic Eckhart, Keel and Dick succumbed to drugs of various kinds, natural mind enhancers and unnatural neurological disruptors (LSD being one). Some think such drugs are beneficial to imaginative thought but neurologist Oliver Sacks, a user who eventually disavowed the use of mescaline, amphetamines, and other addictive substances, said otherwise.

In an account of Dick's obsessions with such "mind enhancers" is this:

"Dick's insights into the true nature of reality were spectacular and varied. Being watched by a gigantic, malevolent metal face in the sky -- as he believed was happening for several weeks during a tense crisis in his third marriage - would be distracting for anybody ... "

So, sorting through the material derived from drugs, and setting it aside, one might find actual revelatory information, and there is much in the book lauded here to examine for such insightful treasures.

A book for the ravenous readers here; those seeking enlightenment of special kinds.

I hate to do this to some of you but a new book listed in TLS is up our alley here, for the fans of Foucault and those smitten by the recent dust-up by me about my pal Bryan Sentes' erudition.

The word "Parresia" was unknown to me, which would anger my Jesuit teachers.

The spelling at Wikipedia differs, from the Chicago Press book cover, but Chicago uses a diacritic over the letter "e" offering a proper accounting of the word.

The devolution of UFO observations (or reports, to give Zoam Chomsky his due)

While giving cursory attention to the two MUFON books noted heavily here recently and perusing Albert Rosales’ Humanoid series often, and paying attention to my UFO feeds from various outlets, I notice that UFOs (or reports of them) have dwindled in bizarreness or vividity.

When entity sightings were rife in flying saucer reports – those 1950s accounts in France, Italy, and South America mostly – today’s reported sightings are of lights or geometrically configured “things” devoid of beings, inside or out.

Entities accompanying flying saucers bespoke the possibility of alien pilots. Lights and rectangles or triangles don’t rile the imagination.

When persons talked about being abducted – post Barney/Betty Hill, Travis Walton -- or being assaulted by odd entities – Higdon and Calvin Parker – there was an idea that we were under attack by visitors from outer space or elsewhere.

Nowadays, lights and triangles only suggest an amorphous phenomenon.

And the rather new Navy pilot encounters don’t help much. They insert geometrics – spheres and cubes, a tic-tac shaped something-or-another, and a fast traveling oddity.

No indication(s) of aliens [ETs] or metal spacecraft, like the cigar-shaped thing spotted by Chiles-Whitted in 1948:

Yes, some cigar-shaped UFOs show up in the MUFON books, but no alien sightings or Forbidden Planet-like saucers.

UFOs, as exciting “objects,” are winding down among observers.
