UFOs may mean nothing but could be a means to an end

I got caught up, Sunday, in a video on YouTube of
Verdi’s Don Carlos, a three hour opera of a time in Spain when
King Phillip II ruled – the mid-1500s, the same time, by the way that the
Nuremberg and Basel broadsheets appeared (which were discussed here and said by
me to represent “Editorial cartooning” for the religious strife of the
time-period).
The opera circulates around the Spanish Inquisition – no
Monty Python jokes, please – and the auto da fé at work during the
period.
This brought home to me that during human history there have
been, as there are now, problems and circumstances that only madness explains,
which you will find outlined splendidly in Andrew Scull’s often-mentioned-here
opus Madness in Civilization: A Cultural History of Insanity from the
Bible to Freud. From the Madhouse to Modern Medicine. [Princeton
University Press, 2015].
And I’m determined, like Phil, who comments here, that
academia rarely, if ever, helps we humans determine what we are, as a species,
or why.
That is, philosophy has been no help, only muddying the
waters of thought with its inane and convoluted processes of what the philosophers call thinking.
Physics (and science, generally) deal with abstractions
that help us survive and discover but have done nothing to help us under- stand
what this reality is truly about.
History, Archaeology, Paleontology, tell us of the past,
never the future or why we’re here in the first place. And Psychology helps us
cope but informs us about nothing we can’t figure out for our- selves, including
suggestions about our supposed unconscious minds and thoughts.
As Phil suggests, common sense may be the best road to
under- standing things.
(There are exceptions, but they are few.)
Yet, I am convinced (somewhat) that the UFO phenomenon, if
really scrutinized, seriously, and not treated as a hobby or a way to meet like
nutters, could give us a clue as to what we, as living, thinking creatures, are
really about and why.
That is, UFOs actually could provide the answers that
philosophy and Ivory Tower habitués have screwed up with their mixture of
madness and beclouded linguistics.
It’s just a matter of really going for an explanation, a forensic scrutiny of the phenomenon, rather than using the phenomenon to fulfill lonely, ignorant lives.
