A few Things

The Metropolitan live opera performance Saturday [1/2//20] of George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess shows that Gershwin offered – inadvertently (from his unconscious)? – truths about America’s black citizens, truths that would generally be considered “politically incorrect” nowadays but cushioned as they are in a cultural overlay presented blatantly with gusto – during February’s African-American History month -- are accepted and allowed, lauded actually.

This goes to my previous posting here that often fiction and cultural utterances present truths that do not show up in scholarly studies or works.

For instance, the great wit and sodomite Oscar Wilde, an idol of mine, gave insight to gay proclivities for youthful, sexual trans- gressions in his The Picture of Dorian Gray. And Homer told us, in The Iliad, about how sexual obsession between the same sexes can bring doom, via that obsession: Achilles love of Patroclus.

And Shakespeare’s pal who wrote King Lear provides us with an overview of dementia and its consequences.

And a History Channel repeat of an Ancient Alien/Astronaut show with David Childress and Giorgio Tsoukalos visiting Micronesia and Easter Island to show a connection, which is palpable, but going off-topic to insist that extraterrestrials were somehow involved with the inner-connected attributes of both societies.

The boys show, inadvertently, that one can see how human nature and/or a belief in gods can bring about odd permutations in humanity’s struggle to survive, none of it having to do with extraterrestrial visitations.

Truth is out here, but that truth is often marred by incoherent and displaced thinking that the unconscious mind – thanks to the great Freud and Jung – tries to correct by asserting itself, in opera, literature, and other cultural efforts, even utterances by people who have an agenda they are trying to assert.

Even the regurgitation of such UFO bromides as the “alien autopsy,” Bob Lazar, Roswell, and crashed UFOs, all resurfacing on Facebook pages lately are corrected by the insertion of unconscious and conscious rebuttal.

If we allow it, the unconscious mind will keep the truth at hand, usually covertly suppressed but persistently asserting itself despite the mind trying to keep it repressed.

Truth will rear its head, if allowed to, in various venues of thought, even those not amenable to such presentation, such as opera, or fictional works, or even ignorant Facebook ramblings.
