UFOs are the paranormal “stars”

Dr Dee, in a comment here, the other day, asked why I
thought UFOs were a special case (of paranormality), better than MIB, or Big
Foot, or ghosts, et cetera.
And I do think that UFOs outshine all the weird, cryptic
things or effects that make up the paranormal categories.
While the MIB, or Nessie, or Sasquatch, or ghosts, and other
things that go bump in the night, what they are, when it comes down to it, do
not offer anything more than odd visitations from men dressed funerally, an odd
kind of marine life, an undifferentiated ape, and an evanescent specter that
communicates by moaning, usually, or toppling a few dishes from a pantry shelf.
With UFOs, one has a panoply of possible excitements:
intruders from outer space, time or another dimension, an exotic life-form, a
top secret aerial device, a concretized macro-quantum entity, a von Neuman
probe (actually another kind of “intruder” but I want to pump up my
excitements), an unknown meteorological effect, a psychological archetype,
angels from God using something more than wings to navigate Earthling habitats,
projections (like the bat signal) from some all-powerful human or group, et
cetera.
Foolishness aside (or continuing, as Zaom Chomsky sees it),
UFOs have a plethora of possible explanations, with interesting possibilities
as a side product.
All the other paranormal effects and entities end with their
mundane, prosaic explanations: what can the MIB do for us, what have they done
for us? What does Big Foot bring to the table, only a new primate for
primatologists; What have ghosts offered?
You get the point.
UFOs are flush with possibilities, all spectacular in some
way or other….unless they are chimera of a special, long-time kind. But even
then, their chimerality outshines the anomalistic dregs that other paranormal
things or groups suggest.
Thus, I think, for sheer interest, UFOs should be studied
more rabidly that the other quirky paranormal elements.
That has been my point, all along.
