Something stupid going on here?
John Greenewald [Black Vault] posted this (on his web site and at Facebook) as a kind of corrective I think:
But the matter seems to remain a vibrant discussion among the UFO crowd, when it seems that the UFO (or UAP, as the U.S. military wishes UFOs to be called) is a mylar balloon or kite that made its way to the upper sky.The problem lies in the ease with which UFO newbies -- and I don't mean millennials or young folks who might bring some new thinking to ufology -- but long-timers who couldn't or didn't want to go to the trouble of setting up a UFO blog or website but now find it easy to establish a Facebook UFO group where they are spewing nonsense and crackerjack ideas that many of us have dealt with for years.
Some are offering "new" ideas but those are turning out to be just nuts or at the far fringe of thinking.
Even news media is bringing UFO dross to the table, the public arena now flush with crazy and crappy UFO detritus.
I'll try to separate the wheat from the chaff but it's not going to be easy, as UFO long-timers have become swept up in all the effluvia, me among them sometimes.
(I blame it on that COVID-19 virus.)
