The Phaistos Disk and UFO fakery

I caught a documentary on Curiosity Stream about the
Phaistos disc:
And while that documentary’s subject was interesting, the
segments about how archaeologists faked “finds” for various reasons – money,
fame, a legacy – reminded me of all the fake materials that humans have created
over the millennia:
The Hebrew tales of god and Jewish heroes.
The Greek myths of their alleged heroes.
The Christian Gospels, none written by Matthew, Mark, Luke
of John.
The Protocols of the Elders of Zion
Paintings of attributed masters
Piltdown Man
Various money scams
The Howard Hughes and Adolf Hitler Diaries
MJ-12
The alien autopsy
And the slew of obvious faked UFO photos
Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera
Why?
Is there an inherent “need” to fake (or hoax)?
Almost everyone wants to be known, or acknowledged, and will
do things to get attention. But what about those who create forgeries without
attribution; fakery for fakery’s sake only?
Such is the nature of humankind that one can’t decry the
behavior. It seems endemic to mankind….some of mankind.
In the UFO world, the deception is rather trivial as UFOs
are trivial, but such minor perfidy irks, because it brings to a halt study of
a phenomenon that deserves a bit of respect, not much but some.
That a harmless hobby as “ufology” is bespeckled by sham and
contrivance isn’t something to get worked up about but it does aggravate those
of us who’s like to know what UFOs are or may be, and are flummoxed by a few
ne’er-do-wells who present “Dead flies [that] cause the ointment of the
apothecary to send forth a stinking savour." (Ecclesiastes 10:1)
