Lucian: A precursor to Contactees and Alien [UFO] Abductees

Copyright 2018, InterAmerica, Inc.

Lucian of Samosata (c. 125 AD – after 180 AD), the second-century Roman satirist and rhetorician frequently ridiculed superstition, religious practices, and belief in the paranormal, Wikipedia tells us:

The Loeb Classical Library [Harvard University Press] is offering Lucian’s works (and many other works of Roman and Greek notables).

One listing for Lucian, Icaromenippus or Sky-man, caught my eye.

Finding (and reading the work) online was more than interesting:

In the satire, which was meant to ridicule philosophers and the ideas about the gods, Lucian provides scenarios that could have come from the 1950s Contactees crowd and a slew of so-called “experiencers” (persons who think they have been abducted by extraterrestrial beings and escorted to the heavens, via UFOs, to be examined or studied).

Fail Safe and UFOs

Copyright 2018, InterAmerica, Inc.

Friday night, November 2, 2018, TCM [Turner Classic Movies] presented the 1964 movie, Fail Safe:

In the initial War Room scenes, when U.S. jets and a commercial airliner went astray, the references by the military men to Early Warning signs of those planes were “UFOs.”
About a dozen times, the cast called the straying images “UFOs.”

What caused the screenwriter (and filmmakers) to use ‘UFOs” so predominantly in the 1964 movie?

Not bogies? Or aircraft” Or blips? But UFOs….
