God and UFOs

This holiday weekend I’ll be spending time with my son Josh, the neuroscientist and his pals from U of M.

 
But also included will my long-time friend Father Fullmer, who was in seminary with me but went on to a full priesthood whereas I left to get married.
 
I plan on raising the issue of God and my (shallow) thinking about the gods.
 
(What this has to do with UFOs is peripheral at this point, but as Ron grasps, I see a connection between the enigmatic phenomenon and the ancient gods. The holiday visitors will eschew any discussion of that.)
 
Here, I’d like to confront the idea of our calamitous position as human beings – Earth’s primary species? – and what import the idea of God bears on the matter.
 
My Jesuit teachers always brought up the idea that if God had a thought, that thought would become reality the moment it arose in God’s mind.
 
I found the idea interesting then and, today, quaint.
 
Recently a talk by atheistic thinker/writer Christopher Hitchens (now deceased) popped up in a YouTube recommendation for me. I was surprised – having rarely paid any attention to Hitchens or Richard Dawkins (whose books I have in my library) – how super- ficial Hitchens was; his views on Jesus a muddle of nonsense.
 
The concepts of God – a primary consideration by many philo- sophers – come down to a being or non-being, with believers accepting the idea that this being permeates reality and was or is the creator of the Universe, life, and everything – a view difficult to accept intellectually for many.
 
Astrophysicists generally think the physical laws of nature replace the idea of a thinking or acting super being. But that concept needs as much or more clarification as the idea of a super entity, most using the word God to encapsulate the idea.
 
My quibble – and it’s more than a quibble for some – is how or why would a God – or super being – be able to intercede or deal with each thing, alive or extant in our perceived reality, the Universe, this planet, the assumed multiverses, the microbes, the quantum particles or fields, et cetera?
 
The idea of such a being – God – is beyond comprehension as most thinkers, philosophers among them admit.
 
Yet, there it is.

In the context of the UFO phenomenon does the UFO mystery mean very much or anything?
 
I think an actual interception of a UFO (not a UAP!) and anything (entity, AI machine, etc.) inside it would clarify the matter of God, or, better, reality – The Real Reality (that Plato perceived).
 
But is anyone in the UFO community – besides me – contending with this? Have members of the U.S. DoD considered the matter, as Nick Redfern contends?
 
Why are we fooling around with the silliness of gathering images with equipment that tells us the superficial aspects of those images, or the essence of the materials making up the images or constructs if they are material in nature – nuts and bolts, as some say?
 
No, it’s the content within UFOs that really count, really matters. 

Everything else is gloss.

The pathological hysteria of UFO alien abduction stories

Those goddam tales from people claiming they were (and continue to be) abducted by extraterrestrials have really gotten almost ubiquitous inside the UFO dialogue.
 
They can be ignored and should be ignored. They are a pathological condition that should be directed to psychiatrists, not considered seriously by UFO enthusiasts/researchers.
 
Yet, encounter tales, where humans appear to be confronted by UFO entities are grist for psychological or human behavioral studies. 

The symptomatic conditioning involved has been studied by José Caravaca with his Distortion Theory and Jacques Vallee to a great extent.
 
The mental etiology of such stories is fascinating, but really outside the UFO compendia of reports.

They – encounter stories – are psychological or neurological in nature or, perhaps, a phenomenal sidebar to UFO lore – in some way.
 
At any rate, ignore UFO abduction tales. They are a waste of time or interest.
