The statement below by Wyatt Mason reviewing a book about writer
Hajji Hotak by Jamil Jan Kochai in NYRB [9/22/22, Page 6]:
“ … actuality has become so ceaselessly stupid that fiction
is having a hard time remaking it.”
....has become a recurring note (theme) of writers and
conversationalists in media across the board.
Human existence is, at the moment, “stupid” – not
pathological as during the World Wars or other massive misbehaviors of history
nor under the gun of fate as was the case with such catastrophes as The Black
Plague or the volcanic eruption of Vesuvius or the last Ice Age 12,000 years
ago.
Nope. People today – society today is just stupid.
Social media footnotes the stupidity. TV shows, sports fans,
academics even, and particularly the UFO community exhibit manifold examples of
stupidity.
I get the impression that some visitors here are not
well-read. They are not stupid just ill-read. (That’s one reason I’m uploading
a plethora of videos sent my way by YouTube notifications.)
More importantly, like Trump’s MAGA followers about Trump,
no one is calling out the stupidity rampant in the UFO sphere.
Most of us just accept the matter of “secrecy” surrounding
the UFO [UAP] phenomenon,
grudgingly perhaps but still with no-to-little effort to
force the issue.
It seems only John Greenewald and his Black Vault
FOIA requests are doing the heavy lifting. The rest of us are bemoaning the
government’s non-transparency, just as happened back in the days of Donald
Keyhoe, but doing nothing about it.
But more importantly, people who once were on the front
line(s) of forcing a UFO denouement have now slipped away to gatherings
(“conferences”) for the sheer pleasure of entertainment or joie de vivre
– one pal of mine living for those silly get-togethers.
Yes, stupidity reigns, just as it always has, but not in
such a massive quantity.
