Ufologists are not the brightest bulbs in the lamp

We all know that, but hate to admit it, as we thus condemn ourselves to the generic ignorance.

I am so sick of reading about Roswell, Rendlesham, MJ-12, and everything else that is dredged up from the flying saucer past.

And, yes, I am as guilty of resurrecting the past as everyone else, and I flagellate myself everyday accordingly for such stupidity.

But it’s not just the regurgitation of the mildewed past that is the problem. It’s the stilted and pathetic thinking and verbosity that enclouds the UFO topic.

When you see a dialogue here between me and Bryan Sentes, that’s not profound intercourse. It’s a dance of nitwits pretending to be philosophical about UFOs when, in reality, we both are not being anywhere philosophical; we’re just using the mantle of philosophy for academic artifice.

One might use the “techniques” of philosophical thought to get at the UFO problem but that would be futile. UFOs are not subject to the vicissitudes of philosophical-thought, UFOs are an anomaly, a phenomenon needing scientific rumination and study, not plebian pretense with an academic overcoat.

And then there’s my pal MJ Banias flaunting his book UFO People which is a fun read but what has it to do with the phenomenon? It is peripheral as hell. (I hope he makes a few bucks off his effort, but as for adding anything of substance to the UFO topic, I don’t think so.)

And what has happened to ufologists, like those in the past -- Rich Hall, Stan Friedman, Keyhoe, et al. – who dug into the flying saucer mystery with an intent to understand or explain it?

Where is their ilk today? (Paul Kimball, who is like them, refuses to come back into the UFO arena. Who can blame him? )

Yes, I know you’re tired of my bitching, but I need to vent, because the UFO topic is on my list of things to understand, better than I do, but mingling with the UFO crowd is preventing me from that understanding. I'm like that UFO square encased in a sphere: I’m a non-sequitur waiting for a UFO messiah, as fruitlessly as a Christian waiting for the return of Christ. (It ain’t gonna happen.)
