UFOs: The Ongoing Futility and Foolishness (2019)

I’m noticing, as are you I bet, that we UFO enthusiasts are struggling to keep UFOs in a spotlight, even a meager spotlight.

The phenomenon is being buried by existential [used in the current vernacular] exigencies that we (all) are subject to.

My UFO pals, Nick, Kevin, Jose and UFO non-pals, like Robbie, Greg, David, et al. are each bringing fluff to the UFO table, but even their meager efforts, like mine, have little or no cachet with anyone, and I actually mean everyone.

I sat in on an online TIUCC brain-storming session and discovered that there was not one whit of a new idea or UFO sighting that amounted to more than a hill of beans (as they used to say).

UFO crashes have become so impossibility-serious that to discuss them without laughing is itself impossible.

When I read my chum Kevin’s take on a frivolous 1897 airship newspaper account, it caused me to ask if he was celebrating the New Year early.

Then there was Bill Murphy’s Anomalist link to Robbie Graham’s excursion into Poland’s UFO sightings and reports. Poland!?

While immersed in the 1960-1964 and 2010-2015 listings of humanoid encounters by Albert Rosales for his swell Humanoid Encounters series, I noticed that each decade produced reports that were heavily entangled in that decade’s zeitgeist.

I had the impression, at first, that the encounters were inter-dimensional in nature but details made be give up that impression.

The humanoids were acting so goofy that they couldn’t exist in any real dimension except one that replicated an insane asylum.

The humanoids often told witnesses that they come from constellations or star systems that only we humans had given names to: Orion, the Pleiades, Coma Berenices, et cetera.

The (often) remembered encounters contain all kinds of odd associations that seem to support Jose Caravaca’s Distortion Theory. (I think Jose is really on to something.)

Every “ufologist” is trying to keep UFOs (flying saucers) afloat as a kind of Weltanschauung. But they are flailing and failing.

Since the History Channel is creating its own UFO mythos with the upcoming, flawed Project Blue Book “drama,” we should recognize that the UFO phenomenon has reached a nadir in relevance, and is now being presented to the masses as a folkloric indulgence for entertainment.

2019 will continue to frustrate serious UFO buffs, but it has always been thus so…
