We might be able to a priori.

In the sci-fi movie Earth vs the Flying Saucers, the human team resorted to concocted ray machines based on, seemingly, the “Cloud Busters” created by Wilhelm Reich to destroy the “orgone energy” employed by Flying Saucers.

“From at least early 1954, [Wilhelm Reich] came to believe that the planet was under attack by UFOs, which he called "energy alphas". He said he often saw them flying over Orgonon, shaped like thin cigars with windows, leaving streams of black Deadly Orgone Radiation in their wake, which he believed the aliens were scattering to destroy the Earth.^”” [Wikipedia]

The movie showed the alien [ET] flying saucers being disabled by the ray gun batteries.

The idea is interesting.

Just as gun batteries are used by Ukrainians in the war against Russia and its use of Iranian drones – the Ukraine guns downing the Russian qua Iranian drones in flight – humans could down a UFO with a like disabler of some ingenious kind.

[Some ufologists have suggested that is what happened near Roswell; a radar scrutiny of objects over the airbase there brought down the flying saucer(s) that allegedly crashed outside the city.]

Maybe something like that has brought UFO debris into the hands of various militaries.

My point is this: if a human consortium of UFO fanatics can create a “UFO-buster,” that consortium could bring down a UFO for examination outside the clandestine hands of the U.S. (or other) government agency.

Study of that downed UFO would take us to its source and the phenomenon would finally be known for what it is.

This may be what Wilhelm Reich discovered, in his odd way, which got him incarcerated and murdered by agents of the U.S. government.

P.S. UFO "nuts" and saner souls, like Avi Loeb, have used or plan on using various conceived technically engineered gadgets to try and discern the make up of UFOs.

Why not engineer (create) a machine that disables the intruders, just as humans do, with guns, when someone trespasses on households or families to do harm. 

We are not obligated to moral or ethical restraint when it comes to UFOs.

This was a 11/15 Google UFO Alert. (It popped up on YouTube also as a notification but I ignored it as it is a History Channel segment)
