I’ve presented this sighting and its accompanying
photographs many times, and no one has debunked the photographs or the
sighting, here, or anywhere.
Yes, It’s an old case but a good one with “evidence” as you
can see.
My pal Tony Bragalia had a go at it and presented some
circum- stantial material that makes me pause at ballyhooing the episode:
compromising photographs that a LIFE photographer gathered with the family of
witnesses – the Trents – while doing a story on their sighting and the
aftermath.
Neither Tony nor I or anyone else has demolished the episode or
the photos, although Bruce Maccabee did a thorough analysis of the photos with
no conclusion that made anyone throw the event or photos away.
There was some debate about the shadows seen in the photo- graphs
causing a few to dispute the time of day the Trents said they saw and took the
pictures of the craft – in the morning vs the late afternoon.
And there was much ado about a truck mirror being the
object, hung by a string from the overhead electric wires seen in the photos.
But there has never been a final assertion of the photos
validity or the accuracy of the Trent family account.
I’ve presented an awkward analysis of the photos and I think
Tony has tried to track down the Trent son, seen in the LIFE photos on a
ladder.
Neither has gone anywhere and the case, while a good one –
des- pite its age – has not been on the front burner of any UFOer for a long time
as fas as I know.
Look at the photos, in the newspaper coverage above. What do
you think? I see the craft as moving away from the photographer, Paul Trent,
as he said, even though I wondered how he could get into the house, fetch his
camera, and grab the two shots. Was the “saucer” lolling along? That seemed odd
to me, and still does. But I like the photos and the way they show something
flying away, much as an aircraft would.
This is a real case, with some intriguing “evidence” that
should be placed among those sightings that give vent to a UFO reality.
