Ufological Atrophy

What a sorry state the UFO phenomenon has entered.
Maybe it’s just the format in which it finds itself –
Facebook (social media), but I think it’s across the board.
Podcasts exploiting UFOs are popular – UFO enthusiasts don’t
like to read – while blogs and web-sites founder in a desert of non-interest.
Facebook has an active pile of UFO buffs but most are
pushing personal agendas with only a few lighting up the enigma with new
material.
Old-timers are bewailing their illnesses or filling their FB
pages with hokey jokes, middle-agers are touting their halcyon days of yore at
past conferences and travels to far-off places looking for newswor- thy UFO copy,
and newbies are adrift in the mire of ufology, resur- recting Bob Lazar, MJ-12,
and supposed clandestine meetings about crashed UFOs and the ongoing supposed
governmental cover-up of UFOs from outer space.
Material about the meaning of UFOs to humans is pitiful.
There is no meaning for humans to be had.
What UFOs are is the question to be asked or pursued. Then
how they impact living things on this Earth should be approached, in various
ways, via various disciplines.
A popular Ufologist sent me some graphs of spikes in UFO
sightings by regions, dates, and time.
I asked what was deduced by the information. She replied
that an “expert” friend of hers said that the data showed “UFO are con- cerned
about our pollution and our brown fields” and “The Experi- encers, tell us that
the Off-world folks keep telling them ‘take care of your planet.’ … We're
turning our lovely blue and green planet into a cess pool.”
So, here we are, in the middle of 2020 and no further along
than we were in 1947.
Why do we persist in pushing the UFO phenomenon around our
communication outlets?
Why?
