The Paranormal (and Nick Redfern)

My dear pal, Nick Redfern has taken me to genial task for suggesting that UFOs be segregated from the class of anomalous “activity” and pursuits that he named in his retort to my earlier posting here, which you can find below, in this blog, along with Nick’s rejoinder.

The book shown here is from my personal library and is highlighted all over the place.

It’s 1981 copyright belies its value as an entrée to paranormal subjects, including UFOs, which the authors see as part of the paranormal panoply, just as Nick does.

Nick calls into focus, John Keel, whom he relies upon to make his case: that UFOs are as connected to all the other weird realities that Nick and others pursue with élan and glee.

I don’t necessarily disagree. My point was, and Nick nails my motivation for that point,

the study of UFOs shouldn’t be muddied by mixing them in with the crazy realities that impose themselves on mankind, and persons such as Nick.

When a doctor treats a patient for an illness of disease, he/she doesn’t deals with an earache while the patient is having a heart attack, even though there may be a tenuous connection, The heart attack becomes the focus of concern and interest, not the earache, as painful as that may be for the patient.

As for John Keel, Nick’s substantive supporter, the man [Keel] descended into febrile madness before he died, that madness showing up tangentially early on, with his alleged access to beings from elsewhere.

I love Nick Refern, always have. (He protests such maniacal fondness, being the repressed Brit he is, but there it is.)

If he thinks I’m wrong to beg for a solo UFO concern, he has to be onto something amiss in my thinking or zeal.

But UFOs should not (do not?) belong inside the admixture of goofy anomalies, such as ghosts, Big Foot, Nessie, MIBs, and all the other things that Nick so adroitly covers in his journalistic-like books.

He made the case for lumping UFOs in with the paranormal rabble and I can buy into that but only as a loony possibility.

For me UFOs are the sine qua non of enigmatic speculation, above the frilly fray that many UFOs buffs include in their run-of-the-mill ufological mish-mash.

Nick will forgive me for being stubborn about this. He’s a gracious mate.
