The December 21, 2023 Holiday issue of New Review of Books (and UFOs?)
Copyright 2023, InterAmerica, Inc.
The NYRB issue is the Xmas issue where hundreds of new
books and a load of book reviews are advertised or lauded, sometimes panned.
It is, for me, an eye-opener about new and old authors, many unknown or lesser known, a few with notable fame as a writer.
However, it’s obvious that most of the authors touted, and their literary efforts, will disappear after the NYRB issue lines a birdcage or wraps some kitchen garbage.
This mimics the often resurrected names of long-gone near “famous” people that The New Yorker continues to bring forth, for one last mention before they, too, go the way of non-memory.
And this is how it is in the flying saucer, UFO [UAP] world: names once on the tips of our tongues, now barely recalled or absolutely forgotten.
How about those frequenting here or nearby in other UFO venues?
Many don’t even use their actual names when leaving comments, employing nom de plumes, often crazy in nature: Zeke the Poltroon, Red Pill Junkie, Zero1969, et cetera.
Me, as RRRGroup, is as forgettable as my real name, which holds no stature in UFO circles, now or from the past, like most reading this.
If the world ends tomorrow, what memory or legacy will we have established?
We are even more “dead” now than some of those New Yorker personages brought forth in sympathy, by that magazine, for their now-forgotten fame.
And we are actually more moribund than those new or once-lauded writers putting forth tomes that will molder on a shelf somewhere until that shelf disappears for one of many reasons.
Nope. UFO “fame” is even more fleeting than the once lofty fame of real accomplishment.
So, not commenting here or anywhere is a guarantee that you will be forgotten more quickly than a mayfly.
