Who is Ufology’s spokesperson in 2018?

In the flying saucer/UFO heyday (into the 1960s), UFO buffs
could lean on some UFO “experts” to guide them through the mish-mash that
passed for legitimate information about the enigmatic phenomenon.
These included Donald Keyhoe, of course, and Blue Book’s
Captain Edward Ruppelt, the ubiquitous Stanton Friedman, John Keel, at one
time, and Jerome Clark surely.
There was Aime Michel, now forgotten pretty much, and George
Adamski, in the early 50s for the gullible public.
A bit later came Kevin Randle and a few so-called Roswell
investigators.
And it seems that Jacques Vallee has been around forever and
on everyone’s tongue tip.
A few other names can be proffered but let’s jump to today,
2018.
Who speaks for UFOs?
Friedman has gone silent, age catching up with him and his
ET preference sinking in sane circles.
Jerome Clark got into music and is rather silent, and my pal
Kevin Randle losing enthusiasm for UFOs daily.
The rest are either dead or inconsequential, Vallee, alive
but among them, sadly.
My buddy Nick Redfern is all over the place diluting his UFO
mania with journalism about every peripheral aspect of the paranormal.
One-time enthusiastic and thoughtful UFO commentator Paul
Kimball has lost that enthusiasm, spending his energy on politics and cultural
endeavors.
Gene Steinberg, the Paracast guy with a legacy, is still
around and cogent, only displacing his legacy with financial needs that have
become dominant for him.
There is writer/journalist Leslie Kean and Linda Moulton Howe
who shows up in TV programs about UFOs but her seemingly poor plastic surgery and
nutty ET beliefs taking her out of the UFO stratosphere.
There are a few names at the edge of the UFO community,
persons with interesting views and hypotheses, a few too irrelevant to the
topic but thinking they have some invaluable input but not really. (I’m in that
group.)
Then there are the Ancient Alien/Astronaut guys: von
Däniken, Childress, Wilcock, the hair guy, Tsoukalos, et al. who speak
to believers who think extraterrestrials are responsible for Earth and it
humans or, at least, abetted both.
They have no voice in the real UFO community, falling into
an abyss of conjecture that intrigues but is so full of holes that only the most
credulous is on board with their ideas.
So who is today’s UFO spokesperson? There is none. The topic
is so buggy and diffuse that no one is an authority or has cachet of a
significant kind.
It’s a field of interest for only the most sanguine of
oddballs.
