Three proofs of the Malevolence (Sadism) of God

Copyright 2020, InterAmerica, Inc.

Let me skip over Noah’s flood, the Black Plague, the Armenian genocide, the 1918 Flu epidemic, the Holocaust, and currently the Coronavirus pandemic to note some acts of God that irk me, at a subjective, personal level:

Allowing Beethoven to go deaf
The final movement of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Ode to Joy.

Subjecting one of the great opera singers to a cancerous brain tumor

Si Vendetta from Verdi’s Rigoletto

Subjecting a wonderful opera soprano to cancer also

The last song in Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs, Im Adenbrot [Sunset]

Don’t pass over (not listen to) these musical efforts. I know Paul Kimball won’t but a John Coltrane fan will, this person eschewing supreme cultural refinement to appear cool/hip.

The Beethoven excerpt is from my YouTube site. Note the fervor with which Leonard Bernstein conducts (and the old guy, in the audience, looking at him adoringly during the applause).

The vigor of Dimitri Hvorostovski was, along with his partner (Sumi),still intact before he was assaulted by cancer. Si vendetta, indeed, but from God.

And Lucia Popp, singing Strauss’s “Sunset” seems to envision her own pending demise.
Note the flute ripples in the last measures; they are the twitter of angels, empathizing with her.
