Two books that readers here might like
The Ashtray (Or the Man Who Denied Reality) by Errol Morris [University of Chicago Press, $30]
This book is by the reviewer of my recent post referencing Thomas Kuhn. The NYRB ad blurb for the book provides this:
"In 1972, Thomas Kuhn, the philosopher of science who invented the idea of 'paradigm shifts,' threw an ashtray at Morris, then a graduate student. The two disagreed about the nature or truth and reality. This book is Morris's attempt to throw the ashtray back." -- New York Times
Action versus Contemplation: Why an Ancient Debate Still Matters by Jennifer Summit and Blakey Vermeule [University of Chicago Pres, $25]
This is a book I recommend for some of you reading here but especially my Canadian pal Bryan Sentes who spends inordinate amounts of time, effort, and space on Facebook (and elsewhere) contemplating (perhaps more than acting).
Bryan likes to offer bromides for the world's problems, which I try to counter, fruitlessly, as his arguments are always steeped in a kind of brilliance that neither I nor others have.
I'll get these books for review, and will offer content from them, geared to impact the UFO issue.
