The move of ufology to (the dark side of) paranormality

I’ve noticed that a small claque of ufologists are maneuvering to transform the study of UFOs (ufology) into a paranormal enterprise and ballyhooing that paranormal experience as dark and demonic.

My pal at Anomalist, Bill Murphy, often highlights the endeavor, not knowing that it is a dastardly enterprise spirited and promoted by a fringe ufologist (and his cronies) because he [the fringe UFO buff] has, allegedly, been assaulted by the dark forces within the paranormal universe.

A 1950 UFO encounter, but ....

I find such tales, as this one, interesting.

But it is a 1950 "encounter" remembered (and told) in 1981.

It is an "historical anecdote" which has to be appraised in the context of 1981 long after UFO or flying saucer accounts had infused society's collective psyche.

Then there is the consideration of memory, with its embellishments that accumulate as soon as a few minutes after an incident is recalled, this one 31 years afterwards.

I find some value in such recollections as the incident remembered is of a traumatic or, at least, significant kind, and the core ingredients are probably rather accurate, even when decorated with minor accretions.

But is the recalled remembrance of an actual event, or a remembrance and reconstruction of an incident that has transmogrified over the years?

We can never be sure or know for certain, can we?
