The [UFO] past is not prologue; it’s barely pertinent

Two of the books I’m currently reading and have mentioned here – Who Are They Really? (Harran) and Identified Flying Objects (Masters) – present the idea that “elementals” may be part of the UFO essence.

Elementals --   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elemental -- being mythic creatures, mostly familiar to us from fairy tales: fairies, elves, sprites, djinns, et al.

While old accounts of alleged Medieval happenings involving ele- mentals and that dual sexual couple, Succubae and Incubi, are interesting – apparently Jacques Vallee was enthused by them – they have nothing to do with the real UFO phenomenon.

And sneaking up on visitors to YouTube, who place UFO as a search item, are vast videos of iconic and long-ago flying saucer and UFO reports, long in the tooth and not one bit helpful in explaining the enigmatic phenomenon.

Then there are the nostalgic return of UFO stories and past con- ference outings from UFO geezers, trying to replicate their glorious (or so they think) past “researching” of the phenomenon and one-time happy co-mingling episodes with like-minds.

But the phenomenon has moved on, to a new sobriquet – UAP – and a more tangible reality apparently.

We can’t go back to Ken Arnold or Roswell or Police officer Zamora or a 1976 incident in Iran or "swamp gas” or Phoenix lights or Chicago Airport holes in a cloud.

UFOs are now, for most people – sane people – a tangible, material reality, not the whim of addled witnesses and regurgitating playmates.

UFOs are now – or should be – the province of serious researchers and government agencies (perhaps).

Moldy ufologists (maybe me among them) have got to sit down, shut up, and move on to their proper dotage.

Philosophers, poets, quirky physicists, folklorists, gullible Face- bookers, Reddit newbies, and other persons on the periphery of the phenomenon should stand down.

Let a new breed of UFO enthusiast have a crack at the phenom- enon – not those chirping away with Vallee asides or insights that are vaporous – but persons with “out of the box” ideas that no one has thought of.

There are a few I bet.
