Bear with me on this: The Socorro sighting (my bad)

Thinking (believing) that the 1964 Socorro/Zamora incident was an Earthian craft that Officer Zamora spotted, I bought a lot of books (and looked up a lot online) about symbols, hoping to find the insignia that Officer Zamora said he saw above the doorway (hatch) of the craft. 

That symbol/insignia was, for me, the clue as to the source (maker) of the egg-shaped craft. I even posted an explanation from a pal that showed the possibility that the craft was from Howard Hughes’ Aircraft company:

But my search for an exact replica of the “insignia” continued and, with Kevin Randle, the pursuit took us closer to the drawing(s) by Officer Zamora but not close enough to determine exactly what was seen or drawn by him, and certainly not to this planet’s possible originator of the odd craft.

Then, while watching James Fox “Phenomenon” (or a special made from it for the Travel Channel) I saw, for the first time – this is where “my bad” comes in – that small footprints were also found inside the landing site, apparently from the two small beings that Officer Zamora said he saw and observed scrambling into the oval machine before taking off.

Footprints? Small, and noted by investigators when they examined the so-called landing spot?

This would seem to augment or indicate the popular, addled idea that the craft was manned (or womanned) by extraterrestrial beings, caught in the middle of some kind of adventure in the sands outside Socorro.

But, if as Dr. Michael Masters suggests – and with which I agree – evolutionary processes for an alien species would be so different from ours that symbology (writing and everything else) would not be recognizable.

And thus the “symbol” seen by Lonnie Zamora – whichever one it was – would not be attached to an ET craft, unless…..unless the craft was, perhaps, from our future, as Dr. Masters makes clear in his book, Identified Flying Objects, lauded (and critiqued) here recently, as you know.

So, I am chagrinned for not knowing about the footprints, having newspaper accounts of my visit to Socorro mentioned often enough and having spent a considerable amount of time and effort fooling around with the incident over the years.

This sighting is one of the best in UFO lore, resplendent with a terrific witness account, the spotted insignia a real clue to what the craft was and from where, maybe, only marred by Ray Stanford’s messy account showing an insignia he wrote was different that the one originally spotlighted by Officer Zamora, his wife, and investigators on the ground, Allen Hynek among them and news media.
