UFOs: A Phenomenon for all Seasons (and Purposes)

A couple of UFO pals of mine are absorbed in the activities of the military or covert agencies using UFOs as their modus operandi.

The mention of such activity by Jacques Vallee in the fourth book of his Forbidden Science series has spurred interest in the alleged CIA concoctions of UFO abductions, and a past event that is a subliminal incident in UFO lore is on the front burner about military UFO tomfoolery, some of which have proven deadly.

(More on that as a buddy gets it packaged for the UFO community.)

The CIA/military activity is one of several purposes for UFO interest.

There is my (and others) interest in the phenomenon as an entry to speculation of what our reality is (or may be).

And that encourages cogitation about human consciousness.

Then there is the ETH insertions that provide the main interest for many UFO fanatics.

(That flying saucers or UFOs may harbor alien life forms, extraterrestrials, is the major patina of the phenomenon.)

Of course the idea that some UFOs may be advanced aircraft of the U.S. or other countries (China and Russia, primarily) has become ubiquitous in news media and among some of the UFO crowd, mostly because of the U.s. Naval encounters of weird things in the skies.

Persons hoaxing, for various reasons, some odd, some mercenary, some insane has always been a part of the flying saucer UFO scene, sadly.

And UFOs as an entrée to a fringe camaraderie has always enthused some introverted or lonely people, who can’t get a notch among the normals.

Finally, UFOs have opened, lately, the door to scientific scrutiny, a good thing pretty much, so there’s that.

Like a man for all seasons, UFOs have come into their own. And we who are enamored of the phenomenon welcome the societal interest, as loony as it is sometimes.

“You have to wonder … “

Again, the Ancient (Alien) Astronaut series on the History Channel provokes with its errant premise: Extraterrestrials have visited Earth and helped humans progress by teaching them all the things that make mental and physical evolution possible.

The problem is that the speculation is undercut by the reality, which is that all (and I mean all) the social/cultural peoples highlighted by the AA theorists are either extinct (Mayans, Incans, Eastern Islanders, Sumerians, Pharaohnic Egyptians, et al.) or never really developed into active, long-time (term) societal units (The Maori, the Aboriginals, the various AmerIndian tribes, et cetera).

That is, the societal units, given all the ET help that the AA people propose, never developed or maintained the special status that they were given by the alleged visitors from the skies.

Furthermore, most, if not all, the proponents of the idea that the gods mentioned in ancient texts were actual extraterrestrial visitors have now adopted the David Childress’ linguistic mantissa, “You have to wonder …”

Do we really have to wonder? About an idea that is so erroneous on the face of it that one can call those who propose it are delusional in ways that in the past would have got them incarcerated in an asylum.

Remember, that in logic if the premise is wrong, everything that follows is wrong.

I agree with visitor Daniel here that those choreographed rock formations all over the place are hard to ignore as feats of wonder and engineering facility unknown or even possible today.

But should the construction be attributed to extraterrestrial help or edification and not some other facility, like beings from the past or future or a part of humanity during the periods when such constructions took place? Just very capable, wise human beings?

(Even gods or Gods in the metaphysical sense that we humans have accepted up to the point of the AA propaganda?)

If extraterrestrials helped “primitive humans” with scaling rock formations and buildings of sublime constructions and then departed leaving those primitive humans to dissolve into a no longer extant race of people, can they (the ETs) be called truly advanced or helpful?

The premise is wrong. The Ancient Astronaut (Alien) crowd is wrong, and the rest of us do not “have to wonder.”
