The Internet (and Social Media): Their uses and misuses

The September 30, 2019 New Yorker (pictured) has a superb article by Andrew Marantz -- The More Things Change: Does connecting the world actually make it better? [Page 69 ff.]
I'm recommending that some of you reading here get the magazine, or access it online, to enlighten yourselves about the uses (good) and misuses (bad) of the internet.
(Jerry Cornelius has gotten access to the magazine and heeds its many insightful articles, so this doesn't apply to him but I'm sure he'll find the Marantz piece edifying.)
What I'm suggesting is that those of you who think the web (internet) is the fount of truth and wisdom and use it to bolster your thinking and online spates of wisdom here (and elsewhere), read the article somehow.
It will disabuse you of your errant use of the internet and Social Media
(Social Media takes the bigger hit, rightfully.)
The piece shall provide other information to brighten your brains and correct any biases you might have about what is truth and what isn't.
I'll have more to say about this but, meanwhile, I hope that a few of you will get hold of the magazine to correct any thoughts you have that the internet is all you need to be intelligent and Social Media is a god-send.
(I know a fellow who only uses the internet for information and knowledge, and he's as dumb as a rock but doesn't think he's ignorant. I don't let him comment here.)
