Facebook: Ufology’s Doomsday

I am a Facebook user; that is I use Facebook, it doesn’t use me. (My information there is mostly fictive.)

But I keep seeing, and have written, there and here (and elsewhere), that many UFO writers and buffs have put their ufological eggs in the Facebook basket, which will come to be les conséquences des leurs héritage.

That is, Facebook, which is under severe scrutiny and will, no doubt, pass the way of My Space once day, will take with it all the ruminations about UFOs (and everything else), leaving nothing for upcoming fans of the UFO mystery with nothing to refer to or be edified by.

Unlike UFO UpDates, which is “archived” somewhere online, UFO material on Facebook will not end up residing in an internet nook and cranny. It will totally disappear.

Already, UFO discourse on the social media site has become ephemera; UFO input and commentary is will o’ the wisp.

And while my meager efforts, like this one, are on Blogger, that too will disappear at a future date as Alphabet (Google’s parent company) has already indicated that Blogger will, at some point, not long from now, be extirpated. (It provides, virtually, no ad income for the commercial enterprise.)

Thus, it seems sensible to me for those hoping to leave a mark in the field of “ufology” or establish a UFO legacy – sad as that may be – would be wise to create and write for a personal web-site or use an internet vehicle that may have some immortality: Wordpress and WIX, for example.

No serious journalist or writer uses Facebook as a vault for his or her creative meanderings.

Yes, the site contains some nice contributions in art, music, literature (books), et cetera, but, generally, the social oasis, large as it may be, holds nothing in perpetuity and never expected to. It is a way station for inane, transitory social flotsam.

But for long-time UFO rumination, feedback, and debate, along with “reports” that now appear nowhere else, Facebook has the specter of death hovering over it, brought about by government regulation or eventual public ennui.

Jose Antonio Caravaca’s new book

Encuentros Cercanos con Ovnis (Close Encounters with UFOs: An Unknown Psychic Architecture Introduction to the Theory of Distortion

My Spanish pal and colleague, Jose Antonio Caravaca has put his Theory of Distortion (with the difficile de comprendre “external agent”) into book form which has gotten acclaim in Europe.

Jose was kind enough to send me a copy, which I won’t review but have to write that it’s a concise and thorough delineation of Jose’s theory that explains many (most?) UFO encounters, flying saucer events where humans see or interact with beings that emerge from a perceived craft.

Jose’s book contains such sightings and includes ample illustrations.

While I suggest that those of you who read or understand Spanish get a copy, those who do neither can find Jose’s theory online here (using Google’s excellent translating aid for the language barrier):

Many of you know that I have promoted Jose’s insightful “theory” which has generated much discussion here and abroad about the “external agent” (a psychical entity that resides in the neurological realm or, more likely, in the mystical realm exacerbated by neurological and/or psychological mechanisms).

Jose’s theory intrigues and his new book puts it in context with all the odd parameters of the UFO phenomenon, explaining “sightings” in a way that makes sense to me and those who see UFOs much in the way that Jung defined in his Flying Saucer book.

Congratulations to Jose for the publication of his unique book and for his creative “research.”
