Ufology, like graphology or phrenology or astrology, is a
kind of “nut house” – the once euphe- mism for a mental hos- pital or asy- lum.
We all know that.
But lately, the ufological “nut house” has become rampant
with various categories of madness or insanity.
Alien abductions, intelligent orbs, ancient astronauts,
malfunc- tioning UFOs, military and alien cohorts, secret alliances with
extraterrestrials,
et cetera, et cetera.
And we long-time flying saucer [UFO] enthusiasts have been
complicit in that take-over of the ufological nut house.
We sit by and let the mentally wayward contingent of UFO
newbies and has-beens dominate the topic, overwhelming it with psychotic-induced
stories, photos, and other mad detritus.
Many, using Facebook, Reddit, and other social media sites,
provide deranged copy that once-sensible UFOers eschewed with alacrity.
The Paracast and other sources – podcasts, web-sites,
‘zines, blogs (like this one),
et al. – now savor the most intellectually vile material and persons
extant.
Facebook groups, TikTok venues, and all the rest have become
refuges (dumps) for the most egregiously stupid UFO material that now
supersedes the once just-loony materials that made up UFO content or lore.
This situation is not limited to the UFO phenomenon, of
course; all of society is rife with insanities or various kinds.
But in our bailiwick we can control the onslaught of madness
by limiting what we notice or by pointing out how ludicrous an item or photo or
abduction tale is.
However, it seems everyone wants to be liked or have “likes”
so what once passed for lunacy now prevails in this atmosphere of FB
“politeness.’
But not here, dammit.
After all, I don’t tolerate loons in news media or academia
and the UFO irrationals are even loonier.
