Ancient Astronaut theorists are onto something, but are stuck with the wrong conclusion(s)

I’m fascinated by the conjectural postures of the Ancient Astronaut crowd, even when they are delivered by persons who personify the word “crackpot.” (I’ve named them before, here.)

That huge stones have been juxtaposed, in ancient eras, into conjoint spaces with a precision not easily mastered even today goes a long way to making a point, but what should that point be?

That tales of gods descending from the sky, and sometimes helping (or hurting) humans betokens a weird history of humankind.

That petroglyphs seems to indicate a kind of interaction between humans and something not human tells us that ancient peoples had either vivid imaginations or strange experiences.

Readers here know the AA lingo and line.

And watching the History Channel’s “Is it possible?” Ancient Astronaut series presenting the idea that extraterrestrials have been interacting with humans and visiting Earth for thousands, nay millions of years, one is engulfed by the circumstantial (provisional) hypothesis and the images that supposedly support it.

Primitive edifices that stun, because they seem impossibly constuctable by the peoples who enjoyed or used them, are plentiful in the AA arena, and one has to accept the idea that such edifices are either out of place or magnificent examples of human ingenuity at a time when ingenuity was not fully formed as a mental ability. One doesn’t have to accept the idea that extraterrestrials built or taught humans to build such edifices, but they have to be explained somehow, and scholars in various disciplines have not been clear how humans were able to create such structures as those ballyhooed by the AA crowd.

But there are conjectural thoughts, aside from the AA/ET suggestion(s), that are just as salivarial as the ET explanation.

And those take us into areas of reality and super reality that I plan on presenting because they subdue, or should, the AA proclamations about ET visitations and influence regarding our planet.

I do think there has been some influence on humankind that moves it along, evolutionarily, but that influence doesn’t or hasn’t come from ancient aliens or ETs of any kind, for all the reasons I’ve noted here and badgered readers with for a long time now, ad infinitum, ad eternum, ad nauseam.

UFO buffs waiting for Godot….I mean “disclosure”

Watching the History Channel’s Ancient Astronaut barrage Friday night [7/6], I was impressed by the up-to-date account of what’s going on with Steve Bassett’s disclosure attempts (via his Paradigm Research Group).

Bassett and his cronies have done and are doing yeoman’s work to get the U.S. government to admit that UFOs are extraterrestrial intrusions and some elements of the U.S. military and agencies are working with, and have been for a long time, the ET visitors.

Now you know that I think the idea that ETs coming here, to Earth, in scads and crashing all over the place, is madness of a goofy kind.

But Bassett and those who follow him make a good prima facie case.

The problem, as I see it, is that, no matter what the truth may be, the U.S. government is not going to spill its beans about what it knows about UFOs.

UFO enthusiasts remind me of the two characters, Vladimir and Estragon in Samuel Beckett’s absurdist play Waiting for Godot.

Vladimir and Estragon stand along the roadside, hoping to make contact with a mysterious person, Godot, who never shows up, and is never really identified or explained,

Hoping that the U.S. government, a kind of Godot, will show up and tell UFO nuts that they have evidence or proof that UFOs have long visited Earth and the government has been working with the visitors since 1947 (the Roswell incident) is as absurdist as Beckett’s brilliant play.

Yes, UFOs have appeared in the skies and on land and sea for some time, if reports are as valid as I think they are, but that the phenomenon consists of alien space craft, containing beings from off-Earth, while possible, makes for a kind rebuke of reality.

Yet, UFO buffs continue to hope that someone, somewhere, in the United States government will break down and “disclose” the insanity.

That ain’t gonna happen….
