That Nick Redfern, he’s done it again, with his new book.

That is, he has written a book so replete with new or little known information about classic UFO sightings, the UFO community, and Soviet intervention in almost every flying saucer enterprise, that readers will be stunned by how little they know and how much Nick has retrieved material that impacts all of us who are immersed in the UFO phenomenon.

Starting with Ken Arnold’s iconic sighting right up into the Russian meddling in the 2016 American Presidential election and its continuing resonation in 2018, Nick makes concrete the idea of Soviet and Russian intervention in almost everything American.

Right off the bat, I’m confronted by little-known things about Arnold’s sighting, Roswell, and the odd but still interesting Aztec “crash” with all its permutations and hubbub in the 1950s, and still.

Two hundred and forty-one pages and sixteen chapters of journalistic scrutiny that only Nick Redfern can pull off, with verve and credibility, awaits those of you who want to really know the intertwined and subliminal machinations of almost every UFO event that has awashed UFO enthusiasts over the years.

(For example, that Aztec scoundrel Silas Newton is revived and shown to be more than what superficial critics of the Aztec affair have made him out to be)

Of course Nick is opening the door to the Soviet/Russian ploys and trickery (propaganda and more) that permeated all of the flying saucer/UFO history, and while that is fascinating and should be to today’s news media people, it is how the perverse intrusions of the Russkies altered the U.S. military and government behavior, and also UFO aficionados who were gulled, and still are, by the wayward actions of our Cold War enemy and obtuse reactions of American agencies of all stripes.

Soviet [communist] activity (before and) since World War II was rancid and vibrant, and continues heated to this day, as you know from the Russian interference in the U.S. 2016 Presidential election, and still ongoing it seems.

Nick presents the nefarious actions of the Soviets before and during the Cold War and shows how it impacted UFO activity and people causing the FBI to ramp up its surveillance of UFO groups and individuals, both of which were often in contact with Russia and the satellite countries under its sway and control.

Nick shows the communist-like messages that UFOers were ascribing to their alleged visitors from space, Adamski and other contactees inspiring followers with tales of socialistic tendencies of their space brothers and even their own behavior.

Religious-oriented UFO groups, like the Aetherius Society and L. Ron Hubbard’s nascent Scientology group was ripe for subversive intrusion, and thus caught the eye(s) of the FBI.

(And while Nick takes the conventional consensus that Senator Joe McCarthy was a political hack and demagogue, his book goes on to “prove” that McCarthy was right about the great numbers of communists inside the U.S. government and military. Referring to the House UnAmerican Activity Committee Nick falls prey to the anti-McCarthy crowd: the correct title of the House of Representative group was the House Committee on UnAmerican Activity. I forgive him.)

The Soviet Russian activity was intense and ubiquitous, using UFO groups and people to subvert American life makes the case. Who would think that UFOs and its fringe element would matter to the Communist World view, but Nick shows that it did, and one can get his book for just that element of his journalistic effort.

However, for those immune to the now dead Communist state and its effortful attempts to assert its plan(s) of world-domination can find much that is relevant to how ufology and UFOs were impacted and affected by the Soviet power and propaganda ploys because Nick accumulates, as I always say about his books and journalism, material and facts that are little known or unknown.

In this current book there are, as I write above, new Roswell insights and even new MJ-12 information that will curl your socks.

I can never really review Nick’s books as I am overwhelmed by the batches of his new findings. He’s alchemical in the way he changes UFO dregs into gold.

This book does just that, over and over again.

A New York TIMES friend of mine who won a Pulitzer and is at work on Russia’s ongoing meddling into U.S. political affairs got Nick’s book at my suggestion and wrote me saying this, “Who is this Redfern guy? He should be working for a major newspaper or national TV outlet. He’s good.”
