Two YouTube finds that are worth your time

A 1977 radio interview between De- troit radio per- sonality J. P. McCarthy and J. Allen Hynek. Hynek illuci- dates the idea of parallel realities. (Listeners call in with questions too.)

The desire to be relevant – (But no one remains relevant)

The SCU UAP gang of geezers are trying mightily to make a mark in the long-withered history of flying saucers (UFOs), but adopting the UAP sobriquet isn’t helping.

And dozens of younger UFO enthusiasts are also working to gain a UFO (or UAP) legacy. But why? And to what end?

There are a hundred names from UFO lore that each of us know or remember. But does it matter? Not an iota.

There are dozens and dozens of artists, writers, archaeologists, dancers, music composers and performers, movie stars, war heroes, space travelers, scientists and other accomplished doers in human society and history.

New Yorker
magazine and literary journals often bring them back to life for a moment but are they relevant. What they did or accomplished may be, but they, themselves? Not so much.

In the UFO universe no one, and not even the phenomenon, is relevant and never has been…"has been” the operative word here,

The phenomenon might become relevant but up to now isn’t and never was,

That some men and women have given (and continue to do so) their lives – time and effort – to the enigmatic mystery is sad. It was then. It is now.

But those SCU blokes and persons like Philip Mantle, Gene Stein- berg, Curt Collins, Isaac Koi, even me, succumbing to the strange things called UFOs is at the brink of pathetic.

We are pathologically obsessed with the phenomenon. And that we and it remains not relevant worsens the matter.

But since all of life turns out to be irrelevant, it matters little or not at all that we are being foolish to continue to obsess over the damn thing.

The SCU guys are dopes, playing at science, Avi Loeb pursuing his “white whale” (Interstellar objects), my pals Tony Bragalia and Kevin Randle still in the clutches of Roswell, me watching old videos of alleged flying saucer encounters or film and photos supposedly of the “objects” – all of us – are indulging in irrelevant activity, wasting our lives.

Yet, that’s true of everyone – no matter how once-famous they may have been  -- and so to bemoan our silliness is itself silly.

But that’s the human way, sadly.
